I don’t have the spacers that go between the rear of the running board and rear fender. Can anyone tell me the material and size? I know I need 4 of them. Thanks for any assist.

February 20, 2014 at 8:13 pm #259847I think mine only has welting, but I haven’t unbolted it to be sure…

February 20, 2014 at 9:02 pm #259849You sure ED? It was a long time ago, but I’m pretty sure that I had welting on my TF. Whatever it was, it was correct, so maybe my memory fails me again.
February 20, 2014 at 9:21 pm #259850Well that new guy in town with the original TD has spacers between his rear fenders and the rear part of the running board. When I see him again I’ll check with him. Unless that is, someone in our group has a definitive on it. And for the record, I’m not against welting but I think I read somewhere the space was to allow water to drain off between the two.

Original TDs have spacers between the running boards and the rear fenders. This is one area where most replicas do not duplicate the original. Most of the kits’ parts were molded so the running boards butt up against he fenders, with only welting between them.Paul Mossberg

February 21, 2014 at 10:36 am #259854Thanks Mustang. I have an order ready for Moss for the hub cap medallions so I’ll include the spacers.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 21, 2014 at 10:39 am #259855Allen, are you sure you need them? As Paul states, the running board is likely dimpled to take up the space already…
Does your build manual reference them?Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...February 21, 2014 at 11:04 am #259856Interesting. I checked the FiberFab assembly manual and it says to insert an 8-inch piece of welting. But the MIGI manual I have (gives dimensions of the wood for the seats and has clearer illustrations) says to add spacers. I’ll have to fit the rear fender and see what the space on mine looks like. Hopefully I won’t need the spacers.
The Fiberfab manual also says to bolt the front of the splash pan to the body. No way I can do that on mine…the splash pan doesn’t reach that last inch. To bolt them together I’d have to create some pieces to fill in the gap.
