Nice day upcoming.  No rain for a change.  Called Happy Jack this morning and, in an hour, we’re going on a pre-Auto & Air Show shakedown cruise of 85 miles to identify bugs etc that need to be cared for before leaving for the show next week.  Other than cruising around the block, this will be my first test of a complete brake overhaul including disc conversion.  Jack’s list is extensive since our last ride: new dist, new coil, new carb, new wires, new gas tank, new oil pump, new fuel pump, new coil over shocks in rear, plus lots of new bling.

Wish us well.  (Or at least no bugs that can’t be fixed in a week.)

Good luck!  I’m jealous!  I still don’t have mine to that point — the summer has been consumed with higher priorities… and “top-down days” are rapidly passing by…

Go for it. Not that you’ll need it (because your TD was running really well the last I knew) but in case best luck on you guys. Like Kent, I am jealous. My TD still isn’t ready. But she’s getting close. When she is on the road it’lll be a month of local in and around town break in before any long trip.

I did 40 miles yesterday. No unpleasant surprises, except it seems to really like 70. Need to watch the speed or I’ll get a ticket. Good thing the heater works, because it was all top down and half was after dark.

Well, we made it.  Both cars ran so well and it was such a nice day that we ended up taking some side trips and my odometer logged 109 miles without burp or hiccup.  We even got the GPS totally lost when looking for a boat ramp that ended up being 5 miles down a 2-MG wide dirt road out to the middle of nowhere.  Cars handled the washboard bumps nicely.  While there, a park ranger, hailed us down to take a picture and “show the guys at the office” what he found on the dirt road gong out to White Oak River landing.  He said “they’d never believe it.”  Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you next week at the Auto & Air Show.  Gabe, although MiGi will do 70, she’s happiest at 55-60 (or at least I am).

Here’ a shot of Jack getting Abby ready:
That’s Jacks 200hp BCW in front of Abby and his Bugeye Sprite to the left.
At about 45 miles we had a pit stop.
And 20 minutes later, here’s Abby & MiGi at Hammocks beach state park:
Great day, great ride.  Embarrassing at times because Jack kept blowing his horn at all the ugly girls.  He said “It’s a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me”.   I told him to “Take it easy.  She was looking at the car, not you.”

    Nice story, boys.

Took Bridget to work the other day & logged no glitches. Fingers crossed for what might be the last long run on this old engine.

Houston’s had several days of rain, but Thursday morning dawned clear and cool so once I’d downed a couple cups of coffee to get my heart pumping, I cranked up Percy intending just to run down to the Shell station and fill the tank. Of course, after that I couldn’t help but head out for just a little drive. An hour later I finally pulled back into the garage after a 45-mile jaunt through the fields and pine thickets of Montgomery County. Amazing how those winding two-lane back roads can attract such a variety of top-down cruisers.

Used the beast all day for work yesterday. 43 degrees at start. No problems at all. Had to work today so I used her again. 38 degrees at start.

Ed, thank you for the referral of Ragwings and Tailwheels for the snoopy cap. I love it. This morning I added a lightweitht balaclava under that cap to portect the rest of my face and I was comfortable. My left wrist was the only cold body part and I can fix that with an old sock.

    I think we’re ready.

Good to hear Bill.  You and Ed will be a sight with your snoopy hats & ski masks.

I’m getting a lot of pressure from Julie and Happy Jack to tow mine up (as the sensible thing for a 72 YO to do).

At what age am I supposed to start being sensible?
    Anybody?

Drive it or tow it Roy, just get it there.

    Driving is more daring though.
Took Bridget to the Cars & Coffee this a.m. & wore the “Snoopy hat” plus the Halcyon goggles & the leather flight jacket. Should’ve used a scarf, then I’d have been roasty-toasty.
People really seem to like the look. It is practical and stylish, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to look the part in their TD.
