I like that car a lot. But who the heck would race such a big, flimsy steering wheel?? 😉

Somewhere there is a ’51 TD that has been claimed as an early–if not first, Shelby ride. Black steelies on it. The obligatory signature. (Update: here it is: http://collectorcarpricetracker.com/auctions/detail/180494600194/)
Interesting how the history goes when the car is on the block.

SCCA race histories note at least 1, maybe 2 TDs he raced in ’52. DNF in both.
‘course, the books aren’t the last word, and a lot of races went on without SCCA sanction.

My neighbor (one door away until we moved about a mile was Bert Levy) who bills himself as the “The worlds fastest novelist”.  He has written several books about 50’s era racing.  My favorite is the “The Last Open Road”  Burt’s web site: http://www.lastopenroad.com/

I’m a fan. Met him at Lime Rock a couple months back and picked up the “200MPH Steamroller,” which I just started a couple weeks ago. Bought that one because I read the “Last Open Road” and “The Fabulous Trashwagon” and “Montezuma’s Ferrari” & couldn’t remember if I read or had “Toley’s Ghost.” I think I have it but haven’t read it yet.

    Highly recommend.
