Hi all, I was wondering if you had any suggestions on cleaning up the gel coat body. I have a Daytona MIGI that is white in color and it needs a little help. Thanks!

February 5, 2015 at 7:48 pm #263013Haven’t tried the cleaners specifically for fiberglass boats, but I’m pretty pleased with how Meguir’s Ultimate Polishing Compound will remove heavy oxidation from gel coat. Then, you’ll need to follow up quickly with wax. Carnuba is likely the best, but I use NuFinish because it is easy on and easy off…KentT2015-02-05 19:49:21

Slowly coming back from the ashes...February 5, 2015 at 9:03 pm #263014As you will find out . You will not get your car to look showroom condition unless you paint it. If you google how to restore / shine gelcoat you will get lots of advise and lots of products that claim they will work . I have tried lots of these products . I have talked to boat people .I purchased a product in Carlisle last year and was told it was the very best on the market . When I go to Carlisle this spring if they are there I will try for a refund . I totally agree with Kent . Meguires oxidation remover after a total soap and water wash and dry Meguires shining compound , I would also use Meguires pure wax .All can be found on ebay. I would use an electric drill with a foam pad (low RPMS) attachment for oxadiation remover unless you are good with electric buffer . THINK SPRING!!!!!
February 6, 2015 at 12:42 pm #263015You shouldn’t have too much trouble compounding out, waxing then
detailing regularly your White MGTDr . I use Surf City Garage Speed Demon Wax
Detailer .. and am happy with the results.I have to be realistic with keeping mah Dark Green 1986 LR MGTDr
gel coat shine. $$ I certainly cannot afford a $500-$1000 paint job at best
!!..And unless one uses sprayed Algrip or Imron or equivalent the paint finish will
scratch easier if using a one part paint. Just my two cents .I cleaned it almost 3 years ago with a cleaner oxidation
product then waxed it .It looked better than when I bought it after sitting in
barn /garage for 15 years in Va.Personally I don’t care about a show room shine .There is something
about a nice patina..I am happy with the survivor look .I enjoy mah MGTDr as a daily driver around the island and errands … 🙂jebarry2015-02-06 18:45:01
