Got the engine hoist squared away.
Here’s hoping I don’t need it again soon.November 25, 2014 at 10:04 pm #261178And new junk for the front end & etc. came today: the new sheet metal for under the frame head, two new sway bars and assorted bushings. I’m still waiting on the “beam stiffeners.”
I also got new front shocks a while back to pull an order into the “free shipping” realm. The ones on Bridget are not bad, but are quite old.The box under it all is my disc brake setup for the front. After unpacking all that junk I took apart my engine stand and put the pieces with the hoist. So now all that stuff is stowed away neat as 300 lbs of steel can be.It’s pretty good there. Short of a 5.0 earthquake it will all stay put until I unchain it.And with that all done I rolled Bridget’s old engine into the opposite corner. Still a good running (albeit quite aged) mill, and for sale on the Samba, if anyone wants to make an offer.Still five piles to go before the stuff is all done. Then the re-arranging. And none of that counts the really big jobs–re-rocking all the walls and ceiling to meet fire codes; painting; floor treatments (if any?), etc.Still, I’m in the part of the job where I feel pretty good about progress made.November 26, 2014 at 8:23 am #261179November 30, 2014 at 9:47 pm #261180Update on garage project. I figure I’m about halfway done with Phase 1: Get the crap out of here and put stuff away.
Carry on.edsnova2014-12-01 10:50:14
December 2, 2014 at 11:08 am #261181That huge Railroad Gun style of Potato Cannon resting on the blue trash container in your blog wouldn’t be good for stealth use but the accuracy should be pretty good.
I like that satisfying “whoooonk” sound they make when fired.Do you need a carry permit for it? 😉December 2, 2014 at 11:24 am #261182Looks great! I think you’ll have work for a while now what with converting everyones TDrs to run on Soob power and cleaning out all our garages! 😉
December 2, 2014 at 11:57 am #261183Ed, as Shakespeare’s Falstaff said: “The better part of valor, is discretion.” Having paid careful attention to your Soob swap, I am, once again appreciating the virtues of the VW 1600 T1 engine.
Uncle!…….you win, and you certainly earned the win. I don’t want no stinkin’ Soob. I’ll just brag about yours.
(I do have a bit of garage envy that I need to work out though.)December 2, 2014 at 9:10 pm #261184Re the spud gun: I took it in partial lieu of pay for a house renovation job I did a dozen years ago. Piezo igniter. Rifled barrel.
Range is about 300 yards. It WAS deadly accurate . . .Until one 4th of July, circa 2005 or 6, when in my enthusiasm for the holiday I decided to augment the spuds with sparklers.I did not, at that time, realize that the melting point of PVC is somewhat south of the 2000 degrees F at which sparklers burn.So now there is a pretty good “wow” in it.December 6, 2014 at 8:14 pm #261185Minor progress. Cut up that big table and made a smaller, rolling table for my wife.

December 7, 2014 at 3:44 am #261186Nice of you to share your toys with her. That photo shows a rather large expanse of clear workspace. Nice going.

"Drive Happy"January 4, 2015 at 9:15 pm #261187Been making progress on the garage sort. Today I rearranged my big pile ‘o cabinets.
Much classier looking now and much more reachable for my 5-foot-seven self.edsnova2015-01-04 21:16:39
January 7, 2015 at 3:56 pm #261188Hey Ed!
I figured out what you really need to do to make your TDr go faster. Turn the headlights around!

"Drive Happy"January 7, 2015 at 10:24 pm #261190Should have turned them all the way ’round, I think. I’ve seen them that way at the races.
January 7, 2015 at 11:19 pm #261191Funny Bill! And a Get Smart reference to boot!
The roll bar does create that illusion!
