Steering collum

Has anyone run into an issue with the position of the steering collum extending too far from the firewall on the fiberfab CHEVETTE kit? It is an original, non tilt chevette collum . The link fabricated from the firewall to the rack is a perfect fit. The upper shaft has been cut down so that the horseshoe bracket supporting the collum mounts to the extention arms protruding from the firewall frame at the proper point. The steering wheel mounts flush to the original wheel hub. I have about 32 inches from the pedals to the rim of the steering wheel(see photo). That leaves less than 18 inches to the seat back,no room to sit. Most vehicles seem to be about 24 inches from pedal to steering wheel. I do not see any way to shorten this other than cutting out the ignition switch/turn signal housing. Unfortunatly that section has a bearing supporting the upper shaft.Any ideas ? Thanks.

Wow, that sits back. The mounting brackets seem way too long, but that’s what it shows in the manual. You can cut the intermediate shaft shorter along with the upper mounting brackets but you’ll need to know where the dash is going to be positioned. That position is what you need to begin shortening it. It’s your car, no two are alike, build it to fit you.

I guess im learning,,no two are alike. Time to start cutting, regardless of what the “manual”says. Will let you see what results.
