    Hi, everybody…..

I built a FiberFab MGTD in 1983, chassis was a ’69 bug with a ’71 engine. Over the next five years or so I put about 5,000 miles on it, then put it in storage (it’s a long story).

The handling always has been scary on the highway — the main reason for the low mileage. Steering is very sloppy. I tried a couple of different (used) steering boxes. It rides like there’s no suspension. Frankly, it plain isn’t safe on the highway.

I’m trying to get it spruced up for sale and I wonder if maybe I did something wrong when I built it, specifically the steering/suspension (I followed the instructions on turning the torsion tube). The turning radius seems very large for a small wheelbase, but I never had a VW, so maybe that’s just the nature of the beast.

I’d appreciate any suggestions. And for that matter, if anybody’s near Iowa and wants to make me an offer, I’m listening
