The Great Race is an assemblage of over 100 cars, all 1972 or older, running in a rallye from Maine to Florida. It stops, for the night, in my hometown of New Bern, NC on Wednesday, June 25th.
Although this is not a TD event, I thought some of you might find it interesting. (Could the John Corey who authored some of the write-ups be “our Corey” of SOG fame? – i’m sure Paul will know.)If I had just a little more $$, and a couple fewer decades on this old frame some call “Roy”, I’d be in the field.Enjoy: http://www.greatrace.com/PMOSSBERG 2014-06-23 16:29:59 June 23, 2014 at 7:55 am #260642Don’t miss it, Roy.
In 2011 the group came through Chambersburg, PA & I rode out with a couple of the Speedster guys to watch. Took some video.I’d really love to run it but pretty sure Bridget wouldn’t rate–even before, when fitted with her VW motor. Very cool rally though.Hey…any interest in running a “grand tour” of some sort with our cars? A couple of the Speedster fellas are high-milers. Several of our group have done 300 miles or more to the Air and Auto Classic. String six of those days together and you’ve covered the east coast…Just blue-skyin’ here, boys.June 23, 2014 at 10:36 am #260643Or, would anybody be interested in coming to the “World’s first annual TDr sleepover at Roy & Julie’s”?
We could do it at anytime or immediately before or after the Virginia Beach Air & Auto show at the end of October. There are 3 TDr’s that live here and we have 5 spare bedrooms. …or you could bring pup-tents. I have plenty of parking space and enough grassy lawn to accommodate all. I’m about 3+ hours south of Va Bch. A beautiful old town: New Bern, NC.If any interest, I will supply all the food and you could spend a day out two galavanting around town.I should mention that Julie was a professional cook.I could possibly arrange a TDr show here to stimulate some more interest in our cars. And, we could have a hootenanny in the evening in my back yard. I have guitars, ukuleles, organs, pianos and amplifiers plus a few other “noisemakers”.Some might enjoy wandering around my friend Dalton’s VW yard which has over 100 1960-1970’s VW’s (only). Visit Tryon Palace and just bum around town.I might be able to get some TV or local paper coverage if enough are interested. It would be a HOOT!June 23, 2014 at 10:43 am #260644Roy, our friend on the SOG is Cory Drake, not John Corey.

June 23, 2014 at 10:47 am #260645Paul, I wouldn’t have mentioned the possible Corey link if not for this line in one of his posts:
“So, early this morning, while the others made their first day???s run, we rose early back home where we dropped the wounded Speedster.”June 23, 2014 at 10:48 am #260646I like it. Not sure I can do it. But really tempted to try. Keep talking.
June 23, 2014 at 4:36 pm #260647I dig some digging through older stories on the great race web site.
John Corey’s “wounded Speedster” is a car of his own creation…a 32 Buick fenderless Speedster.Looking at the history John’s creation and his fabrications skills, I suspect John Corey & Cory Drake would be friends if they knew each other!PMOSSBERG2014-06-23 16:37:03

June 24, 2014 at 3:58 am #260648Roy, it sounds like fun. It would make for an 8+ hour run home. It’s doable but you’re gonna have to talk me into it. You’re close enough to Va Beach to be there Sun after the show. Monday to enjoy your town, then a mad dash home on Tuesday. I’ll have to check vacation calendar at work.
