Greetings to Members!
My name is Lou and I have a kit car project that has followed me around for 28 years.
I purchased a Ford based Fiberfab/CMC MG-TD kit in 1986. Got a ‘rolling chassis’ built, then changed jobs and moved twice since then. No appreciable work, or strong desire to finish until now. About 2 years from retirement and Wifey sez “finish the kit car, or get rid of it.”
Sooooo, with my trolling skills I’ve spent 2 weeks on this Board, reading a lot of the posts, and convinced myself that this is THE GROUP to get help from.
Am planning to go to Carlisle in May and have registered under the Speedster group (hope this is OK). Can’t figure out which hotel everyone is staying in – advice?
My learning curve will be steep but right now I’m a sponge for important, and necessary knowledge. I’m usually careful with, and successful with mechanical efforts as long as I have a guide of some kind and don’t rush the process. That’s where I need to depend on suggestions of this group from time to time.
Funny Story: I was too cheap to pay shipping from the FF/CMC factory in Florida to West Virginia, where I lived at the time. My neighbor drove a bread truck, and knew a guy in the truck transfer business. The big rig went down to Fla. on a delivery and was coming back empty, so my neighbor’s friend had the rig pick up the packaged kit and bring it back to WV. My neighbor then took his bread truck and brought the kit home to me. Nice guys; they almost lost their jobs over this, and I haven’t even built the car yet!
I owe it to them to finish…maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to give them both a ride before we all meet our creator…

I think your two best sources here are Bill, who built his Ford-powered kit 20 years ago and raced it; and Gabor, who made his own frame so as to convert a Chevette kit to Ford v6 power. Both men are hyper-skilled and friendly. There are other members with Ford kits too, some recently finished. You will be regaled with tales of obscure problems and their solutions. You Rock! Sounds like a ‘community of believers…’ Yeah, that’s what I need. Royal suggested (since I don’t know anything or anybody) that I taxi over to the show with billnparts and/or Mr. Gabor? That would be a dyno-mite once-in-a-lifetime experience for me to ride in their cars. Ahhh, the sweet smell or naugahyde and contact cement! I’m ready, willing, and able, (with notepad) as soon as I reserve my room.
