Could someone please explain the “topic tags” box? I suspect that it has to do with the effectiveness of the search function and so we should be using it. Maybe just re-enter the topic title in that box?
😀
October 4, 2016 at 5:22 pm #301983You are correct. Tags help search engines find stuff.
More specifically, tags are a way for a forum to file topics in an organized manner, making it simpler to retrieve those topics in search results when you’re using the forum’s search function.
A tag is one word. If you are entering more than one tag, separate them by commas.
Tags don’t have to be complicated, they’re meant to be broad terms surrounding the idea of the topic and nothing more. They can usually just be tossed in while you’re creating your new topic.
Hope this helps.

October 4, 2016 at 9:38 pm #301986Would you support the idea of entering the topic name in the tag box to facilitate searches or is that redundant?
💡
October 5, 2016 at 10:15 am #301988I would guess that is redundant.
The forum search will find matches in the topic.
I grabbed a recent topic to use as an example, Ed’s post about EZ Pass problems.
The topic is: EZ Pass Toll, Flat Tow Nightmare
In the Tags field, that would be entered as:
EZ, Pass, Toll, Flat, Tow, Nightmare
(remember, each tag must be one word, with tags separated by commas)
I don’t see any gain there.
Tags should be additional words that describe what is being discussed. For example, Ed could have added “violations” or “tickets” as tags to his post.
