My tonneau and convertible top are quite old and have a dull appearance. They are unknown age and have stains also. They are the standard vinyl (white) variety and look pretty good from 10 feet.
I am afraid to try any heavy duty cleaner, like greased lightening, for fear that they may make the vinyl hard and brittle.
Do any of you have any suggestions as to a known heavy duty cleaner/whitener that works?
I use some a high enzyme dish detergent mix it with water keep it in a spray bottle works good .After it dries out vynal protector the kind that makes it shine. greg press2013-04-07 13:01:51
Greg, Thanks but I would like some more specific instructions. What brand what proportion etc?
I am a bit afraid of having a really white top afterward that is suddenly falling apart. The top does not seem particularly fragile but it is likely 40 years old.
Roy, if you can’t get it absolutely clean, just get it as clean as possible and shoot it with vinyl/fabric dye from a rattle can. White’s easy to find, I think. I’ve used various tans and black and it works wonders.
I’ll close this thread by saying that one of the local club guys said that the guys in his club use Black Magic Bleche-Wite tire cleaner on their white tops.
Tried it. Works great. No damage.
Tonneau is in the background hanging on the fence.
