I’m plugging away on Moneypenny (VW based) and when not working on her I install the car cover from MG Magic on her. During a mild rain no water enters and gathers on the floor boards. The car cover was doing the job of keeping rain out of the car but in heavy rain the water was collecting up near the front firewall. So to help isolate where it is coming from, I added a tarp over the interior section and then put the cover back on. When it rains hard, like lately, water enters the car from somewhere and my floor pans get flooded. But I don’t know where the water is coming from. Possibly the hood strip? Do those who have a metal hood strip add sealer into or around the holes before tightening the nuts? Getting baffled by this. Almost ready to add the top and carpet but need a dry interior before I install the carpet. Thanks all.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackDecember 9, 2015 at 1:33 pm #266484My FF car is always garaged, so I don’t have your problem, but I don’t think it would be the hood strip letting water in. Even if water made its way through, there’s no way it could make it down to the floorpans inside my car … admittedly, yours may be different.
I think I’d focus on the car cover. Some car covers are not entirely waterproof. When I lived in Missouri and had a boat outside, a strong rain would cause water to puddle in the center of the cover and eventually it would drip through. I solved that by adding a support in the center of the cover so there was no place for the water to puddle up. Try a prop rod in the center of the cover, or if you have a top installed, just put the top up and that should prevent any low spots on the car cover for the water to puddle up.I know you have a tarp, but water runs incredibly fast and easy on a tarp. If water makes it through the car cover at all, it’s not that hard to imagine that the water then just rolls down the tarp until it finds an edge or even a tiny hole … and eventually finds a way to your floorboard. Look to see that your tarp completely covers the passenger compartment, that the center is higher than the edges (the support I suggested would do that), and that the edges of the tarp are over the sides of the car, so that any water making its way through the car cover MUST end up outside your car.Or, you might simply try putting the tarp on top of the car cover instead. Together with the support for the car cover, that definitely ought to keep the water out.Water leakage can be very difficult to pinpoint. It might be helpful if you could post a picture. Good luck.johnsimion2015-12-09 14:56:03
December 9, 2015 at 1:43 pm #266485Try a hose
December 9, 2015 at 2:59 pm #266486Okay. I tried a couple of things. Switched the tarp and car cover. Tried the hose. Water on floor pan. Took cover and tarp off and snapped on tonneau cover. Put cover back on and tried hose. Water at front firewall. Took car cover off and left tonneau cover on. Opened hood and found the problem. Hood seal at windshield section was unglued in the center allowing a gap
that let water in. Dripped down to top of tunnel and rolled to part of floor where master cylinder is and seeped through to floor pan. Re-glued seal and added foam seal. Closed hood and latched it. Nice tight fit. Installed car cover and tried hose again. VIOLA!!! Floor pan dry. Soaked the car cover for five minutes and rechecked. Floor pan still dry. Now on with the project. Thanks john and greg.Allen Caron
