So here’s a kick in the head… Doing my underside-of-framehead job I decided to pull the master cylinder to make access easier for the welder & etc. Since the disk brake upgrade is next, and since I bought a new Brazil-made MC four years ago, I figured I’d just swap in the new one.
My plan would have worked, too…if I could find the dang master cylinder!Looking in the parts cabinet (brake section) I find:2 sets of front brake shoes. (Why? I don’t have a clue).2 sets of brake shoe hardware.2 new rear brake cylinders.New E-brake cables. One complete brake line set for a VW bug.Everything but the MC!Looked in all the places it should be. Then in all the places it could be.Finally I searched everyplace it couldn’t possibly be, including the room from which I am typing this.So now I have a question for you-all:Did I give someone this thing and just forget?April 19, 2015 at 5:35 pm #264188Sounds like you cleaned your garage like I do.

"Drive Happy"April 19, 2015 at 6:08 pm #264189Sounds like you are about to have a “brand new” 4 year old Brazilian made spare master cylinder somewhere.
April 19, 2015 at 6:11 pm #264190As soon as you buy a new one, you will find the other one
April 20, 2015 at 4:06 pm #264191Spike is right. So here’s what you do…
Buy a new one.Keep the receipt. As soon as it arrives, take another look around the garage. When you find the one you alredy have, send the new one back.Paul Mossberg

April 20, 2015 at 7:09 pm #264192Ed…Don’t you remember. You put it in a safe place so you wouldn’t lose it. 🙂
Look there first and if it isn’t there let me know. I have a spare dual MC sitting on my parts bin that I was going to sell down at the Florida Bug Jam. But its probably in that safe place!!Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackApril 20, 2015 at 7:19 pm #264193I think Paul’s plan is brilliant. Spike is right, that seems to be how it goes whenever I can’t find something and buy a new one.
April 20, 2015 at 8:53 pm #264194That will have to be the way, I think. Cip1 here I come.
April 20, 2015 at 9:22 pm #264195Ordered: New German MC, new inner and outer wheel bearings for the disks (they don’t appear to be in the kit and I don’t want to have to knock them out of the old drum setup) and four new front ball joints for when I can find someone with a good press who isn’t a hammerhead.
April 20, 2015 at 9:23 pm #264196Same type of thing happened to me today. Bought a large roll of dust tape a week ago . Made the comment this will last me the rest of my life . Today I bought another roll .
