    I’m starting work on my Duchess that’s sitting on a 69 VW Bug chasis and need to know if I need floor pans with or without the seat track.

    Appreciate your help.

    I would use the current one as my model but it’s kinda hard to tell from what’s left.

     In my opinion,you do not need the seat tracks. Your seats will sit on either bases or frames that are supplied by the kit manufacturer. If yours are missing ,they can be made from treated lumber and covered with carpet.

    Definitely won’t need the seat rails. Or the jack adapters either. Sometimes at VW shows the vendors have new floor pan halves for sale without the seat tracks. I have seen them that way on the Samba web site and they have the holes already drilled. If you can’t get the pan halves without the seat tracks they are not hard to remove. Grind off the welds and then touch up with some paint.

    I just replaced my pans with wolfburg pans. The tracks were on them so I ground them off but the metal in the pans are heavy and they fit like a glove. I highly recommend them.

    It’s not  just opinion…you do not need the seat tracks.

    The Duchess assembly manuals have templates for the outer seat brackets. The manuals are in our Download Manuals page.

    The manual will suggest making them from half inch plywood. I had mine cut from sheet steeel, and welded feet to the bottoms to spread the load out.

    The manual will also tell you to rivet the back fiberglass of the seat bottom to the bottom of the passenger compartment.

    I attached mine with a piano hinge running the width of the seat bottom. That allows me to easily lift the seat for access to the battery, which is in its stock VW location.
