Stupid question (my norm)…I want to remove the windshield wiper arms from their post – and can NOT figure out how they clamp onto the post. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Oh…it’s a fiberfab on a ford.
thanks,
BillSeptember 2, 2011 at 9:07 pm #246204Bill, Most of the time if you grasp the arm directly over the post with a pair of pliers and rock back and forth while you pull , they will come off. Some arms have a small spring clip that hooks under the knurled nut that the arm fits to.If your’s has the clip ,use a small screwdriver to pull the clip away from the nut.
September 2, 2011 at 9:20 pm #246205Larry ,your wright but you forgot if it has a nut holding the arm on at the center , that is what i have .. Dan
September 2, 2011 at 9:32 pm #246206Dan, You are right about the nuts. Some have nuts, some don’t. Since Bill said his clamped on ,I assumed that he had the type with no nuts. This is beginning to sound like a Mounds/Almond Joy candy commercial. ”Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don’t.

September 3, 2011 at 1:22 am #246210Wow, I’ve heard of thread drift.
But I do believe this is the first time I’ve seen a topic drift from windshield wipers, to Mounds/Almond Joy to M&Ms.
So I guess the natural question at this point is….
Plain or Peanut M&M?

Bill, my wipers arms have a cap that just pulls off a slpine, well with a little rocking, pulling and yelling. The spline it self has 2 set screws holding it on the shaft and the wiper arm slips over the spline. Make sure you line the wiper up as you put it back on or your pulling it off again.

September 4, 2011 at 11:34 am #246217thanks for the help on which candy to go with, guys!
I’ll try the pliers trick. I want to pull off the arms and cover the post with a red cover…have the covers, and I think it’ll look good. Besides, if I EVER needed the wipers, I’d need my head examined on why I had the car out in the first place.
September 4, 2011 at 12:06 pm #246218I agree Bill, wipers? I actually feel about the same way about the top, it’s there for emergency use only..

Isn’t that what overpasses, parking decks and lunch are for?
September 5, 2011 at 10:32 am #246220@monte – pulled the top when I redid the interior.
@world – did the pliers thing, got the wipers off! Was a bit surprised on how the spline attached to the post – pretty cheap. Got that off too, and covered the posts with a bright red bolt cap. MUCH cleaner looking windshield now. Thanks for the suggestions!
Sorry to interrupt the mounds/almond joy/m&m debate,
BillSeptember 5, 2011 at 11:27 am #246221Bill,
Post a picture when you get a chance. I agree pretty cheap set up, been wanting to do something to change mine too.
Love your interior the red MG octagon really sets it off.
