    Just bought my 52 MG volkswagon kit car.  How can I find the year of the doner car?

    on the top of the tunnel, under the seat, ,in front of the shifter coupler cover plate,  should be some numbers stamped into that area. That will be for the pan/frame, but vws are so interchangeable, it will not confirm yrs of the engine or the tranny.

    The number stamped into the pan is the VIN for the donor car. Once you find the VIN on your chassis, here is a VW Type 1 VIN Decoder table:
