Figured it out….bottom line, connectors don’t fit through the retaining bolt, so it doesn’t matter…gotta do a cut.
July 29, 2012 at 5:43 pm #251242@Bill….exactly what I want to do. The trouble is removing those three terminals inside the connector.
July 29, 2012 at 2:54 pm #251240I’ll chase down the other end to see how difficult it looks.
thanks for the heads up on the replacement smoke kit! However, I also own a ’49 Hydra-Glide, which provides me an abundance of replacement smoke as needed (and then some).
November 21, 2011 at 10:21 am #247329@stacks – well, yes, but no. If you are one of the first
500 people each year (meaning, get in line the first day
that DMV is open in the new year), you can receive a
waiver exempting you from the SMOG program. This allows
people (such as a CA congressman) to build custom cars
with monster engines and not worry about the incredibly
tough CA emissions standards.
In CA, regardless of when it was built, or when it was
blue tagged (mine was tagged in ’81), if it leaves the
state, when it comes back in it’s registered as a custom
vehicle built in the year returned to the state – so mine
is registered as a 2009, and had to meet CA emissions
standards for that year (with an ’80 2.3L engine, that
just ain’t gonna happen). That exemption resolved that
particular issue.
Just some useless trivia,
Bill
September 5, 2011 at 10:32 am #246220@monte – pulled the top when I redid the interior.
@world – did the pliers thing, got the wipers off! Was a bit surprised on how the spline attached to the post – pretty cheap. Got that off too, and covered the posts with a bright red bolt cap. MUCH cleaner looking windshield now. Thanks for the suggestions!
Sorry to interrupt the mounds/almond joy/m&m debate,
BillSeptember 4, 2011 at 11:34 am #246217thanks for the help on which candy to go with, guys!
I’ll try the pliers trick. I want to pull off the arms and cover the post with a red cover…have the covers, and I think it’ll look good. Besides, if I EVER needed the wipers, I’d need my head examined on why I had the car out in the first place.
June 21, 2011 at 8:41 pm #244894Sorry for the late reply….I specified extra firm foam – I have NO idea where Palo Alto Upholstery got it.
Dan, thanks! Work in progress, but coming along…
May 30, 2011 at 11:09 am #244891Various answers:
– seats are VERY thick…and I ordered extra firm foam..mainly because the original seats were so godawful.
– not so tall…6’1″, but had them make the back rest thinner and contoured so that I wasn’t so up against the wheel
– along those lines, next to the backrests, instead of foam is really hard plastic, so that it won’t wear getting in and out of car
– the only real issue remains my feet are 10 4E…and dealing with the clutch is a pain. I had them remove everything on the wall left of the clutch and install black plastic (like above) there…this helps a bit, but still easier to drive barefoot…just too tight. Any ideas on that (other than getting my feet trimmed) would be appreciated.More pics later…still have one minor project before posting more.
