John Black replied to the topic Expanding the passenger footwell in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 5 months ago
Hi Guys Well the new footwell is a resounding success in that the passenger now has some room for his or her feet. The sheet aluminum box was fairly easy to fold up even without a box and pan folder. I merely used two pieces of 4×2 as the folder. The box you have to make is 10″ from top to bottom with 12″ square sides. The box must narrow to 1…[Read more]

Hi Paul,I think you have mentioned your gas tank placement in the past. I am; for now anyway happy with the gas tank size. The leg room was becoming more of an issue with the other half. These are the during construction pictures. Very simple task of cutting the fibreglass section, the most effort will be in the folding of the new box to make i…[Read more]

Hi guysWe are a group of people that may well be able to somewhat understand what it took to complete this car. Our cars came as whole entities or as a kit of parts. This guy had to make/find/modify parts as required, an incredible task to undertake for anyone. His biggest break in my opinion was finding the body in Italy. That alone brings him…[Read more]

Hi GuysAs I have stated in the past I am going to rewire the car myself. The FF wiring on the car is all white or it was anyway. The end of a few of the wire runs has small rubber sleeves with numbers on them (some sort of wiring code) I have a great deal of experience with old French cars and they use a similar system with the same coloured w…[Read more]

Hi John/PaulMy dash actually fits pretty well as the previous owner had taken weeks over getting it right. He also stated that he would “never do it again”. I was just toying with the idea of a complete original dash etc So im going to take the hint and give up on that idea. I will still go for the old style gauges and switches etc.All this is o…[Read more]

Hi GuysThe concept of using MGB running gear is I think a decent one. The concept of using the MGB frame is flawed. The MGs rocker panels are structural in a big way. Get that wrong and you have a problem waiting to bite you in the nether regions! He should have used a custom or even a small truck frame and just used the B running gear, in my h…[Read more]

John Black replied to the topic Fuel Pump Pressure. in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 6 months ago
Hi Guys.Well 4 days without doing anything is enough. The idle vale has been changed out with no improvement to the gas dropping into the cylinders on shut off. Fuel pressure lowered from 5 pounds to 3.5 pounds. No change, placed an extra washer under the needle vale in the float chamber. Again no change but noted that the valve was not the orig…[Read more]

Hi guysSo here is the update so far. The shut off valve has been replaced so the car now idles fine and doesn’t run on etc. The fuel still runs into the engine after you shut it off so no improvement there. I think that only leaves me with the float height being at fault ??. All work on the car has come to a halt for few weeks as I have no…[Read more]

As an addendum to the last story, Win also raced a Ex Works rally Mk1 Ford escort. It was parked up behind his filling station when he retired the car. I purchased the car from him as a worn out race car and put it back on the road, It cost me a total of 400 Gbp. about $600. Anyway it was way to rich for my blood to run it. A full works pre…[Read more]

I was 19 and headed to work early one morning back in the early 70s driving to work in my home built Mini. It, the car, started out as a stock 1071cc Cooper but at that time was running with a 1340cc motor. So no traffic and small English country roads in the west country of Dorset. I was happy, having fun throwing the little thing around wh…[Read more]
