Sorry, but I sent it to Royal. I’ll ask him to send it on to you. You can send him a private message with your mailing address. It is a fun read. -

Ordered the gas cap and hose. The measurements are right and it should fit.
Many thanks. -

Holy Mackerel! Where did you find that gas cap and the connections? I’ve been looking for one, but have limited space to install. The base has to be 2 3/4″ x 3″.

The photographer took my card and said he would send a photo, but he never did. I just hope my MG does NOT show up,on some adult web page.

It was an April Sunday, two years ago. I drove my BCW 52 TD to a EuroSunday cruise in that caters to European cars, Ferraris, Aston Martins, exotic stuff. The organizer directed me to a spot next to a black Enzo Ferrari. I protested, but she insisted. I parked as far from the Enzo as I could and went over to talk to the owner – a clueless doc…[Read more]

Re: wire wheels. I found the MWS web site and the wheels may be a go. But where do I find the TR3/4 hubs?My hubs have a four-bolt, 100 mm spacing, patterns.

Re: TD-ish wheels. When I bought the BCW, it was a basket case, barely running, and unsafe at any speed. It had fake wire-basket wheel covers that were in terrible shape. I pulled them off and was surprised at how close the wheels were to the originals. But there was no way to mount a standard MG hubcap. I took one of the wheels to a hu… -

I just made my exhaust manifold look pretty. I went through the smog exemption routine here in California, it’s call SB100 and applies to speciality cars, hot rods, etc. Once I got a number, the first thing I did was to rip off the air pump and heat shields. The car actually ran better. But I still had to take it to a “referee station” to f…[Read more]

With everything looking pretty, back on goes the head. Time-Serts works perfectly. Of course, I forget to install the guides on top of the valves (pesky little devils). Off comes the head, back to Auto Zone for a new head gasket. By now they know me well and they are on a first name basis with my credit card. Now everything is reinstalled, new… -

To answer Dan R’s question, I only have a Haines repair manual for a Chevette. The threads for one head bolt in the engine block are damaged and look like they have been repaired before. They are much shinier than the threads in the other holes. I ‘m guessing they were repaired using a Heli-coil repair kit. I’m not sure how to proceed at this…[Read more]

Ooops, sorry. I didn’t explain it very well. The exhaust manifold is on the right side of the head, with no problem with the bolts that hold it on. There are eight bolts, two per exhaust port. I can line up the four rear bolt holes on the manifold with the proper bolt holes on the head, but then the four front holes on the manifold will not…[Read more]

Nothing worked! I heated the head in the oven and used spreaders. Nada! Zilch! So I solved that problem by getting another exhaust manifold from Rick Drake. And that led to problem number two. See new post on head bolt threads.DickH2012-12-22 18:36:18

Obviously, that didn’t work. I was trying to upload photos of the problem and of the spreader I made using a socket and a bolt.

Hopefully, this works and you can see how the bolt holes do not align with the head

I have a one barrel carb and would like to upgrade. Is it a bolt on or do I need a new manifold?

Dick replied to the topic Shock compression in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 1 month ago
To answer Royal’s question: His and billnparts earlier posts got me to thinking. With the shocks installed, I measured the distance between the shock’s attachment points on the ground – 11 inches, and when jacked up – 12 inches. Then I removed the shocks and repeated both measurements with the same results. Thanks to earlier posts, I had al…[Read more]

Wow. Problem solved! Thanks for all the help. I installed Monroe 5811s on the front. The steering bounce is gone, and while the ride is still stiff, the improvement in steering is much improved, like in fantastic.

I just checked with the car on the ground. The shocks are fully compressed.
-
Dick replied to the topic Shock compression in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 1 month ago
The shocks are the same length. The front suspension has always been stiff with a little steering bounce.
