Haven’t thought that far out. I was thinking I’d clear-stain it twice and hit it with like 400, then spar varnish or something similar.I did use a lot of Watco oil back in a former life. Great stuff for butcher block and the like. If they have some kind of marine-grade thing I might consider it.

She’s low enough already, Bill & I don’t have a spare 1/4 inch, which is why I’m asking about the track width changes. A lot of guys buy the 2-inch narrowed beam but I skipped it when I went to the new beam last year.Schu: I’m gathering info. David Stroud seems to have the best handle on this job for the Speedster. There are people who swear by…[Read more]

Ed, have you called Smoothline? That is the successor company to BCW, run by the same family. I tried emailing them a few years ago and got nothing back, but a phone call from you might work. Also: Search for Greg Schauber on the site. He put together a front engined BCW a couple years ago, and I think he had most of two kits. his handle was…[Read more]

Thanks, guys. I’m pondering it because I’m pondering a subaru engine swap for when the time comes and because I like being able to stop, every time. With a soob I’d have about triple my current HP and, though the car would weigh about the same, I would certainly, from time to time, exceed my current top speed. Also: autocrossing. Still, my question…[Read more]

Yeah, $1400 might be OK if it runs & you like a nice project. Hell, $3k is probably fine if you like a nice project. Interior’s about $200-$300 in material. They’re fun to make. Top’s a $300-$400 job for a top person. If you feel you must.Brakes, new tires. New wheels (imho) and weld-in beam adjusters from cip1: $800-$900What are we up to? $1500…[Read more]

No, but I have been told I bear an uncanny resemblance to Alfred E. Somewhere there is a picture of me in tails (no less) dancing with a nice blonde girl whose normal job was doing TV commercials. This thing happened at the Waldorf Astoria, as I recall, circa 1991. I do remember Gersh Kuntsman of the NY Post referred to me as “pudgy” in his report…[Read more]

Hey–HEY!My car has a top. Here’s my father in law under it and ready to endure his first rainy ride:
And I usually wear a shirt–though I am quite proud of my well-defined pectoral muscles, drum-tight abs and luxurious mane of neck, back and chest hair.

Bill, that looks like a really nice 2:15 drive from my house. No way to get there on interstates. I’m very interested. Now where’s our new friend with his Cologne-motored project?

Ah! Thought so. Very much in line with what I was pondering for Bridget if I ever construct a fake period-correct Arnolt heater for her. My heat comes through the tunnel and dispenses through two little ports just ahead of the shifter. MG TD heaters were metal cubes that rested on the trans tunnel up under the scuttle. This Thing part would just…[Read more]
