Did you use the gallon bucket of carb stuff you let the parts soak in? That stuff gets out all the junk, then you blow the ports out with an air hose after soaking.</p>

The spring loaded are notorious for leaking, use original VW parts. Another place to check is around the oil pump. I would almost bet on a throw out bearing. I would also replace the clutch disk when it is apart. The disk is cheap. Buy good quality parts for the bearing. If you use PVC get some that is rated for Hot Water, or else it may get soft. I would recommend relocating the speakers, the sound will be better.</p>

You might want to get a boat or car upholstery shop to make the top to fit. Mine is a little short on head room for me. I am 6 foot 1. Good luck and welcome aboard. I am making new bottoms for mine, and I have cut the foam so it is a little taller at the side edges, to keep my bum in the middle, this requires cutting two wedges to glue to the top. If you go taller you will need to reset the stops for right and left turn radius. If you don&#8217;t it can get ito the fiberglass where it laps over the Pan. Then sand the edges, and they will look great, and it is cheap.  Cut them out with a fine tooth scroller blade, but not super fine as it will get hot and weld itself back together as you cut.  Learned that the hard way. The car weighed about 900 pounds and was put on a dyno and tested out at 400hp. I used it on a 1/8 mile drag strip in Muncie Indiana. We ran 15&#8243; wide M&amp;H drag slicks, and had serious weelie bars.
