I Googled the name on the bus and came up with this:http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleinschnittgerhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G1Ph4pd4Z0

Dunno. I asked the person who posted it to the Facebook group for Busses. That vintage of bus would’ve had no more than a 40hp, and was likely a 36 HP or less. Could’ve been 25 or 28hp.KentT2015-04-02 19:13:57

Very good price, IMO. I paid almost that much for one in far worse condition…

Just ran across this pic of the back of a VW speedo. It shows the curved bus bar that provides power to the outside of the idiot light bulb holders that are seeking ground. -

Swing axle rear suspension means 1968 or earlier, though I can’t make out any details that would date it as the unique 1968 long-axle rear with anti-sway control with 4 lug brake drums. Ball-joint front suspension dates it to 1966 or later. My best guess would be a 1966 or 67 that’s had the rear brake droms swapped out to 4 lug to match the added…[Read more]

Ok, Allen, I went looking for any installation instructions that might have come with my alternator, and couldn’t find any. So, here is how I THINK it works ánd should be wired. Note that my new engine has not been installed, only run on a test stand, so I haven’t wired it in, much less tested the alternator.Though mine is called a single wire,…[Read more]

Good question. I’ll have to check my instructions. I think the spade connection is actually a piggyback, and you plug it in beside the main charging wire, or I could come off the ammeter. I think the light is hot, seeking ground, but now I’m confused…KentT2015-03-12 21:15:49

It’s way too early to commit, since my garage still isn’t done much less my TDr roadable. But the Rialta may be up to the trip, with or without flat-towing the TDr. Do camping spots get as scarce as hotel rooms?KentT2015-03-12 21:07:04

Sounds like your alternator does not have a built-in regulator, Allen. Mine does, and you’re supposed to remove the external regulator from the circuit, leaving only the hot charging spade connector, and the screwed on ring terminal ground. You simply connect the hot wires that were on the regulator previously. When I replace my dash and clean up…[Read more]

My alternator has only one pole for a spade connector, plus the ground screw on the body of the alternator.

Yes, I pulled a Pinto. Later, I towed a 64 Bug from San Antonio TX to Newport News VA and 18 months later to Ogden UT – crossing both WV and WY (among others, of course) along the way. That was with a Wasserboxer Vanagon.I don’t recall exactly what the final gear ratio was on the 64, but a liile bit of power goes a long way when your gear ratio…[Read more]

My first bus was a 1964 Deluxe, but it didn’t go to Woodstock. It went to Keesler AFB MS with me, and then on to Homestead FL with my wife and toddler, pulling her 1972 Pinto… I wore out 4 busses over the following years. I’ve lost track of how many cross-country trips I’ve made in them over the years. Great memories of numerous camping trips in…[Read more]

Paul, I’ve always heard that an alternator needed the resistance of the idiot light to excite it and begin charging. I’ve never heard that about generators, and I have seen lots of generators with only an ammeter. I don’t claim to know the final answer…

Googled image of 1939 MG TB center dash panel, nicely restored and labeled. Couldn’t easily find comparable TD pic…I like how the choke is labeled mixture, like an aircraft engine.

Has it ever been titled? If so, I’d think that a chain of evidence via bills of sale or title transfers would suffice. For new builds, it is not unusual for them to want an MSO on the kit. Unfortunately, laws can vary widely from state to state. According to the DMV site for Nevada, a bill of sale should…[Read more]
