I can’t give you the details on the suspension at the moment, as I am not there. Later on I will get my ex-mechanic friend to have a look. No doubt he can tell us.
You’ll also have to answer silly questions like,”Is that a REAL car?”
Well, that is a real existential question indeed. Just what is a ‘real’ car. I bet many ‘muscle’ car owners would turn their noses up at most ordinary cars as not being ‘real’ cars!

October 23, 2018 at 10:31 am #305635Yes, it is too early for storage – but we are now in Portugal, and headed to Trinidad for a month of sailing (see http://lifepart2.info) before returning to Canada for winter skiing. Then we go back to the boat in the spring, and so it won’t be until the proper summer that we get back to drive Sally.
And if I seem a bit excited, that might have something to do with waiting 41 years!
Ok, here is may attempt at uploading some pics (thanks for the instructions):
The last one is my and my mom shortly after we unboxed the car.
According to David Carlaw at Prototype Research “The car is very authentic to the original 1952 MGTD. The 3 differences are the bottom castings on the windshield frame, the taillights and the Headlight lower castings.” Plus the three-point seat belts that he installed for me. I gather that they took the fibreglass moulds directly off an original car.
Hmm, driving down to PA is a loooong way from western Canada. But who knows, one day?
Cheers

September 3, 2018 at 11:05 am #305485Well, it turns out that the ad on Kijiji was some kind of scam, as the lady (?) was advertising the exact same car that is currently on sale by Prototype Research , and she has no connection with them whatsoever. Maybe she was hoping someone would just send her a deposit. I don’t know what her game plan was. And she was asking $1000 more for it!!!
But anyway, the exact same car is being sold by PR, and I have decided to buy it! Bill of sale coming through today for me to sign. They were the original builders of the car, and they are making sure it is all fully functioning, and are installing 3-point seat belts for me too.
It is exactly what I was looking for. In as-new condition, white seats (so they don’t get hot in the sun), front engine, and beautiful lines.
I have wanted one of these cars for decades, and now I am getting one. So excited.
Once the deal is all done, I will report back on the Registry thread.
You guys have all lived up to your reputation of being friendly and helpful. Thanks so much!

August 30, 2018 at 10:36 am #305481Yes, I’ve heard those seat warmers can be quite high maintenance.

August 29, 2018 at 11:17 am #305479Bear in mind the price is in CAD, so that would be about USD$13900
And a factory build should be in its favor. Any comments on Prototype Research?
The seller sent me some more photos – certainly the car looks in perfect condition – everything very nice and shiny. clearly it has been kept indoors all those years.
I will grill her about the tires, hoses and fluids etc
Thanks again

August 29, 2018 at 10:39 am #305474Thank you guys for weighing in with your opinions. All very helpful and much appreciated.
I do realise these are old (unsafe) cars. Was just wondering if they could be made less unsafe, but I guess not.
I am still looking for one, but the real challenge is how far away they all are. Well, I am not in a hurry, so will just take my time with it all.
I did come across this one: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/ville-de-montreal/mg-td-replica/1379511471 which sounds interesting. I believe this is a 1986 Prototype Research factory build. They want $18k which seems a bit overpriced perhaps.
What are the issues with a car that has been sitting doing nothing for 30 years? I am presuming that the tires would probably be an issue. What else? At least the gelcoat should be nice and shiny!
Any comments?
