July 15, 2011 at 7:17 pm #244356Very nice work the car looks spectacular. I am interested in the gauge rebuild process also. What type of front beam is that picture looks like it only has one tube? What type of rims or those?
July 15, 2011 at 7:08 pm #245415Welcome Bill
July 13, 2011 at 7:06 pm #245378Dick I live in the Northwest now bu I was born in the Binghamton area and still have lots of family there. Welcome
June 22, 2011 at 12:31 am #245263I removed the small leaves and cut the beam and welded in adjusters top and bottom. This not only softened up the ride but lowered the front closing the gap between the fenders and tires. I like a slight rake downward in the front.
June 21, 2011 at 1:09 am #245234Paul,
It is OreGUN the other will point you out as an outsider. Also to be accepted in Washington or Oregon you can claim to be from anywhere except California.
did some more research I was wrong CMC was Street beasts not Factory five. my apologies to the folks at factory five. here’s a link to what I found.http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Streetbeasts_fraud_c ontroversy
June 20, 2011 at 4:57 pm #245232Paul is right about the history of Classic Roadsters. I also understand that the remnants of the company are owned by someone from Saskatchewan Canada and I heard a rumor that the CMC folks are actually the factory five folks, any truth to that? The quality of this kit is amazing the fiberglass is very thick and strong it has roll up windows a mustang two suspension power steering and brakes. I really like it, it has inspired me to rethink my front engine td and upgrade her suspension and power plant from the chevette to the mustang II and a v6 or small v8 the Marlene is longer but not as wide as the TD. I am also thinking about channeling the body of the TD to get less space between the fenders and wheels and have a lower overall stance. Been thinking about making the front clip one peice and flip forward like the court wizard did.
Paul I thought about changing my nickname but I started it here and now use it on several other forumns like the mercedes and jaguar sites. besides the folks here in Orgeon keep callin me that guy from Washington so I guess I’ll keep it : )
June 19, 2011 at 1:46 pm #245228In Reedsport oregon. I was recently transferred there by my company. I have often joked with the wife about now that all but one of the kids are gone and he is off to college we can downsize to a two bedroom house with a 4 car garage. Couldn’t find that but I found a 3 bedroom house that sits on top of a six car garage. the house sits on a one acre lot right on the umpqua river. I’m told its some of the best salmon and steelhead fishing in the state. I have a boat dock in the back yard so I guess I’ll have to get a pole and see if they are right.
June 19, 2011 at 12:38 pm #245226November 13, 2010 at 10:51 am #242789i’m not sure what the laws are where you live but the records for many states only go back 10-15 years therefore any vehicle not registered in that time period is dropped from the records. You then can go to the state patrol or dmv depends on who does the vehicle inspections and tell them that you lost the title and its been sitting so many years that someone stole the plates. They will then pull the serial number off the top of the tunnel to the rear next to the inspection plate, run it thru the records and if it doesn’t show up on the search they make a new title for it. now some states will do a conditional registration instead of a title for two to three years which will allow you to drive it but not sell it. if no one proves with paperwork claim to the vehicle during that time period then a title is issued. Of course i am only speaking about California and Washington state but i would think that other states must have similar laws
Good luck

November 4, 2010 at 10:12 am #242717Congratulations Donna! You will love it they are so much fun to drive that every time the sun comes out, which here in Seattle is not nearly enough, I can’t think of anything but takin her for a spin.
WillNovember 4, 2010 at 10:08 am #242720Donna, As Larry said get the grill slats from MG magic. I also have a Daytona Migi and they are slightly different shaped. The cockpit slopes down a bit in the back where the fiber fab and CMC ‘s go straight This makes the tops for those cars a couple of inches too short in the back. Brad at MG magic is very knowledgeable and can tell what other options you have. I had to have one made. I live near Seattle in a very big boating area. i went to craigslist in the boating section and found a guy that makes Bimini tops it cost me just a little more and is custom made for my car.

November 3, 2010 at 1:20 am #242680I couldn’t echo the sentiments more, thanks Paul for pulling us through. I have that domain name i bought. I thought just so it doesn’t go to waste I’d set it up as a redirect. That way weather they type TDreplica.com or TDreplica.org they will find us what do you think?

ThanksOctober 29, 2010 at 4:59 pm #242625Ed,
in addition to our obsessive car hobby, I brew my own beer, so though it is a nice gesture, a six pack is not needed. We really enjoy use of the site and all the great info and comeraderie. I look forward to coming home each evening and seeing whats up with the group as well as sounding out issues I’ve encountered. Bottom line we really need to keep this going in some form or another.

October 29, 2010 at 1:46 am #242623Its great that all of you have grabbed the archives. I have plenty of web space that I pay for each year any way. My son has built forums for ESPN, UMAX mma and others he has looked at the site and says he can Rebuild a similar site and forum easily, so I purchased today the Domain name TDREPLICA.org. I think with everyones efforts we can keep this going as is or very close. Its really important to me and I know it is to all of you too. Who are the admins for the site now and do you still want to be the admins? My son says he can set this all up for us.

October 23, 2010 at 8:16 pm #242590Ringo, that’s funny.
Donna,
I have to agree with all of the posts so far I have driven my VW based kit all over. It will certainly do 70 but i really don’t feel safe going much over 65. They are a very light car and weigh some where around 1500 pounds far lighter than the original bug who gave its life to live again as a local celebrity. I drive it all over and can’t go anywhere without people waving, yelling “cool car” or at the minimum giving me an ear to ear smile. I have gotten praise from all ages from grandmas to babies. its sort of like driving in the parade where ever you go. I also stay pretty much to the two lane freeways and side roads and don’t drive it on the interstate much. I completely rebuilt mine so i’m not sure what others have experienced but I would plan on having to do some work on it they are just not the same as buying a new car off the lot. I know everyone is different but I think rebuilding it was half the fun. Will
October 19, 2010 at 9:58 pm #242508I bought adjusters at the beetle shop cut the top and bottom of the beam and welded them in. I also took some of the other guys advice here on the site and removed 4 of the half leaves, it rides real nice. If you can weld you will be out around 60 bucks as opposed to an adjustable beam which I believe are around 275. of course I had a whole day of my time so that might have been a wash, but certainly part of the adventure.
