December 11, 2009 at 10:34 pm #240013Thanks for the tips Richard….I’ll be trying them out as soon as I thaw out.
December 11, 2009 at 10:24 pm #240234WISHING YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. LEON AND CHERYL ARBEENE
December 6, 2009 at 9:20 pm #240186Thats great…The wife and I just arrived in Naples for the next 2 weeks. Boy, I wished I had the TD down here…80 degrees. Just tripped over a restored TD and was pouring over it to see all the REAL STUFF. It was for sale for $25 big ones. Ouch. I guess I’ll be happy with my dual exhaust TD. Enjoy Florida and Merry Xmas to all.
November 21, 2009 at 9:39 pm #240062Luckily the builder of my car was an electrical engineer. His work looks very professional…knock on fiberglass…one less thing to worry about.
November 21, 2009 at 6:27 pm #240060Paul, I think I’ve just about solved the dilemna of the heavy engine cover. I purchased a pair of the lift tubes from one of the links you provided. I am supposed to receive them by next week. I’ll let you know about the installed results. Thanks for you clear expanation of your system.
November 20, 2009 at 7:32 pm #240057Paul, I see the bracket hinges on your engine cover. Would love to land a couple of those, but mean while I’m playing with the idea of removing the whole cover like Bill Collins’s car. Might be too heavy though. As far as using my golf clubs on the engine cover, the vehicle will pull to the right to match my slice…very unsafe
November 20, 2009 at 10:15 am #240041Paul, The search goes on…I’ll see if I can find the “nipples”. I wonder if the porsche caps fit the corresponding VW 4 lug wheel for a 1971.
November 19, 2009 at 10:00 pm #240039Paul, Check out Baileys pic….Are these the same as yours?
November 19, 2009 at 9:39 pm #240036Paul, Just found them on the Whitney site. They have the EMPI centers.
November 19, 2009 at 9:33 pm #240052Paul, Did you just reverse your piano hinge or was it built this way? I like the idea of opening from the top but what to do with all those holes.
I followed your links and one was interesting to try. Larry, I’d love to see a picture of your prop rod, stowed and holding lid up. Thanks Dan, I’ll be looking for one that fits. Thanks guys.
November 19, 2009 at 2:08 pm #240021I intend to take your advice. Much appreciated
November 19, 2009 at 2:04 pm #240031I really appreciate all the help. Got my wheels sanded and ready for primer and paint. I’ll post the finished results. Many thanks
November 19, 2009 at 9:04 am #240028Thanks Paul. I look forward to hearing from you
November 18, 2009 at 4:37 pm #237492Hi George, Rich and Rob, I’m Leon down here in Hingham on the South shore. Be happy to help any of you out with your TD’s. I’ve had a couple and presently own a red VW based car I purchased off Ebay. I’m also in need of parts and advice. Hope to help
November 18, 2009 at 3:57 pm #240019James, I found the most convenient thing about this lift is accessibility to the under dash assembly. I’m working on the floors, steering, and wiring from a standing position. I love it so far. Thanks for your response. The reach range you referred to is not a problem with the adjustable creeper. This company thought of everything. It has also turned out to be a great work surface or shelf for tools.
November 18, 2009 at 1:23 pm #240026It would be alot easier to not deal with that embossed VW logo. I suppose I could just cut it out. Whatever, its going to take a bit of work. Thank you for the help…I do love the look of your wheels. Now on to stripping the wheels and paint.
November 18, 2009 at 9:39 am #240024Exactly what I’m looking for, thanks Paul. Now I just have to locate a set of VW caps. Love that convertible bus.
November 17, 2009 at 8:55 pm #240017This is a better view of how it will work with a TD. This photo came from the lift manufacturer.
November 17, 2009 at 8:41 pm #240016I went ahead and bought the whole lift system. It came with a caster set which allows me to move the whole assembly around the garage. I know you guys advised me not to, however, once I saw it in action I couldn’t resist it. It allows me to sit up while under the car. I’ve been able to detail the chassis and check out every suspension part without any hassle. I thought it wasn’nt enough lift as you did, but you’d be surprised at what 30 inches allows you to do. I’ll post a picture of this assembly. Thanks for the help
