My name is Wendy. I just bought a 1980 Duchess Classic Roadster, a kit car for a 1953 MG-TD. I am looking for parts such as a dash face, rear view mirror, side (front mounted) mirror, steering wheel, new top and side plastic windows, carpet kit. I don’t know where to look for these things and who will give me the best price. Can someone help me?
June 24, 2007 at 10:15 am #237042Hi Wendy,
Welcome to the club!
I have a Duchess also.
I understand Classic Roadstes II still has some parts for our cars. I have not been in touch with them recently. But at least one other forum member has. You can try to call Don at 888-722-6272.
You can get your fender mirrors from Moss Motors. I suggest the convex lenses for both sides. Moss Motors has them for only $14.50 each. Plus $2.00 for two pads.
Go to http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?SearchText =mirror&WebCatalogID=9
Clssis Roadsters may be able to make a top. They made one for me, form old patterns, but that was over ten years ago. If not, most folks I know have gone to a boat top place. They’re used to sewing canvas and vinyl roofs and curtains, with no liners, like our cars tpically have.
MG Magic (a place in Florida, phone sales only) is another good source for parts for various TD replicas.

Good luck. And keep asking questions!

June 24, 2007 at 9:36 pm #237043Welcome aboard Wendy I also have a Duchess and just ordered the mirrors the other Paul was talking about they are nice…Keep posting questions so we can all learn more…
June 25, 2007 at 12:26 am #237044Wendy,
You also asked about a dash rear-view mirror. The Duchess kit came with an original type TD mirror. I found it unusable as it did not provide much adjustment range. I replaced it with the type typically used in Cobra kits.
One source is Shell Valley. It’s $20. You’ll find it here: (9th item down on the page) http://www.shellvalley.com/Store/products.asp?ID=Accessories &store=cobra

June 25, 2007 at 9:18 pm #237045Wendy,I am not sure what part of the dash face you need, but MG Magic has the whole wooden dash in stock.(or they did) They sell the tops with the side curtains included. They are no longer making up carpet kits up though. He does have a few sets left in burgundy and red right now.I called him a week ago to order two carpet sets in tan or brown and was told they are done with carpets. The top sets are real nice and no boat shop around here will even look at those tops.
June 25, 2007 at 11:44 pm #237046Wendy,
For what it’s worth, two friends in NJ had tops made at boat shops.
Where do you live?

July 15, 2007 at 10:19 am #237047July 15, 2007 at 10:24 am #237048Thanks so much everybody. Actually I have never been in a chat room before so this is pretty cool that I received so many responses. They were all very helpful. I never thought about a boat shop! I have since taken it to a mechanic just to get a tune-up. I was having trouble with my wipers. He said I need another wiper motor. I don’t know in these kits if it is a VW part or where to go to get one. He said he could not find one. Does anyone know what kind they are in the Duchess or what kind of vendor to look for them? Having an old car of my own is pretty cool. I’m really getting into all the fixin’ ups on it! I live in Orlando, Florida
July 15, 2007 at 11:27 am #237049Hey Wendy I just moved form Orlando, the Waterford Area alll my life, I to have a Duchess that I bought in Orlando and now live in North Ga. 30 Miles north of Atlanta, I am in Orlando all the time seeing family. My Brother likes to work on cars, he is retired on Lake conway and could help if needed, I believe the motor is the VW one and there is a great shop for VW’s by Hoffner and Orange I will get they name if you need it.
Let me know I just can not think of it right now. but it has it all.
July 15, 2007 at 11:32 am #237050By the way the other Paul is right I just got the rear view mirror form Moss it has a single mounting stem and I do not want to drill another hole and the Mirror I got is a little small for Moss.
But if anyone needs one I have one for sale

July 16, 2007 at 8:14 pm #237052Thanks again especially for the information for MG Magic for the tops. You guys have been a great help.
July 16, 2007 at 10:25 pm #237053Hey Wendy,
Make sure they know you have a Classic Roadsters Duchess. each of these cars has their own quirks. And a top intended for a Migi or Fiberfab etc will probably not fit the Duchess.
