On the MiGi that I just bought there are several wires that are disconnected and several switches that apparently do nothing.  The backup light, the fog or running light don’t work.  All of the wires are numbered.  Does anyone have the wiring diagram that came with the original Fiberfab MiGi.  Vw based.  It would sav a ton of tracing!

Talk about brain-dead!  I just found the wiring diagram in the manual section.  It is for a MiGi 2, and I have a MiGi, but I assume that most of the info is the same.  What was the difference between the two?

    dbrock,

Not sure about the Migi 2 wiring.  I went through my wiring when I first got mine and went back & forth between that diagram and the VW factory manual wiring diagram and there were very few (only minor) differences in what I saw (and updated) in my car.  I’m not sure if the previous owner made everything identical to the ’69 VW wiring layout or not, but it seemed to match very closely.  I had some switch problems but most of my work centered around the voltage regulator (I replaced it) and the generator.

Try this link. It’s from the MIGI kit in the Download Manuals tab on the left.

And just for added info, during the research for my wiring harness (mine didn’t come with the harness) I found that the 62-63 stock vw harness comes as close as it can be to our TD replicas. I bought the universal wiring kit fro a fellow on eBay. Everything is in it I need exxcept for wiring the dash and that’s covered in the assembly manual.

    Siamezy,

I really believe a wiring diagram for any VW based kit will serve you well. And that belief is even stronger within the Migi and Migi II world. It’s hard to imagine there would be ANY differences in wiring a VW based MiGi and a VW based MiGi II.

As noted here, VW kit wiring diagrams are available over in our Download Manuals section.

You’re only wiring a few circuits: engine/starter, front lights, rear lights, and dash. A VW harness will actually have more than you need. Even a dune buggy harness set will work for us.

Saw a neat trick over on the Speedsterowners board: Lay out your wiring harnes on an actual piece of wood, close to the length you’ll need. V in some nails to keep the wires straight and mark all your terminal ends where they go. That way you can get the harness built on a bench, instead of lying on your back with your head under the dash.

The guy who showed this used a terminal block (any boat supply place or Radio Shack has them) to keep the front and back halves of his harness separate and manageable. Put it in next to the fuse holder. Used zip ties instead of electrical tape or a split loom cover to keep everything tidy.
