I’ve seen this thread in other forums and thought it’s be good here as well. Might even help someone pick wheels for their kit. I’m leaning towards wire wheels BUT…the stock VW rims with stock VW hubcaps is pretty close to the original MG TDs. And I do like the 8 spoke EMPIs. So what is everyone running?

I run stock VW wheels, painted in the original TD gray (available in rattle cans or paint). I have chrome hubcaps, with no VW or Empi or any other logos. I drilled them out to accept reproduction TD centers.
Of course…you can see them in the pmossberg gallery.

September 1, 2010 at 3:30 pm #242133Ditto Mossberg’s setup for Bridget. ‘Cept I don’t know what color the wheels are–probably the usual “wheel silver,” which is close to Moss Motors’ Official MG Wheel Gray and 1/4 the cost. (Ask me later about how to get the correct bronze color for the center instrument plate without shelling out $22 plus shipping to Moss, and I’ll tell you).
Some TDs I’ve seen had wheels painted black or body color. Incorrect but acceptable even in the TD world. Those thin VW trim rings dress ’em up too, but in a spendy fashion.
Advantage of black or body color, aside from being kewl, is it camouflages the lack of 15 round holes, so an observer with overly-specific historical MG knowledge could overlook the 8-slots until they get real up-close like.
Not that anyone here wants to fool anyone there.
