It was a cold drive home from the Cruise-in on Sat. night, had to put the heater on. Got me thinking about the time of year. Thanksgiving is around the corner so it seems like the time to winterize my car is here;
Gonna pack up the Tonneau top and put the convertible top back on.
Boy do I love living in Florida
I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving
November 22, 2010 at 9:39 am #242979You’re not going to drive her during the winter months and live in FL and live in the Villages (where the wife and I want to retire)? Well if not, don’t forget to winterize the motor and fuel system as well. Regarless if its a VW, Chevy or Ford. Engines don’t run so good on crappy/stale gas. I have a Moss Motor’s catalogue and they even sell Dessacant plugs to go in the engine where the spark plugs fit. They’ll keep the cylinders dry.
And Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

I have to say, and with all due respect…
Your post was just downright cruel to to those of us that live in the north.
Altho, I will say, the first time I ever drove my Duchess on the road, with “borrowed” license plates from my daily driver, I got snowed on!
Take that you “year-round warm weather” friend!

November 22, 2010 at 11:04 am #242981Perhaps I misunderstood, but I think Luvmytd was referring to swapping the tonneau cover for the top. That was his winterization process. Seems like I remember him driving it during his winter vacations before he retired.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
November 22, 2010 at 12:27 pm #242982That’s exactly what he said! And that is the cruel part.
Winterizing has an entirely different meaning up here!

You misunderstand the winterizing process in Florida:
You take the tonneau top off and re install the regular top.
You put a couple of blankets in the boot.
You have fun and drive you TD all year round
There are things I miss about the Northeat, the winter is NOT one of them.

Paul I don’t mean to be cruel but I am enjoying driving my TD 12 months of the year.
November 22, 2010 at 2:25 pm #242985Well….it still hurts.
Actually, I’m probably just jealous!

November 22, 2010 at 2:35 pm #242986luvmytd,
I guess up here in Georgia we’ll use the same winterizing technique as you down south in the Villages. Not much use for heat during the winter.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackNovember 22, 2010 at 6:23 pm #242990I guess I’m a die hard or maybe just plain nuts. Went for a drive the other day, top down, replaced the light jacket with, a sweater and heavy coat and turned on the heat. Only winterizing I’m planning on is checking the antifreeze. Anyday above 50, dry and sunny is fairgame to me. Let em look!! I still get thums up from most.
November 22, 2010 at 10:23 pm #242991V Dub based cars don’t even need to check the anti-freeze!
