Hi. I am a new opener of a TD and want to move the pedal cluster closer to the drivers seat. Has anyone done this? Question is on bolting it on to the tunnel and cutting a new hole can it be done ? Also I am sure I’d need and exended brake push rod?
August 14, 2011 at 10:29 am #245799Welcome Mark. Glad to have another TD owner aboard. Which type of VW TD do you have?
Look over on the left and select the Download Manuals tab. In there you’ll find manuals for different TDs that you can download. Suggest you download the one for your car. Extremely helpful even if you’re not building a kit.
To answer your question, yes you will need to drill a 2 inch diameter hole in the tunnel after locating the position of the new hole (about 22-24 inches rearward.) Then you’ll have to cut a 4 inch square hole on the opposite side to access the clutch and all that and be able to get to the nuts securing the pedal cluster. And yopu’ll have to cut a slot for the new location of the gas pedal linkage and relocate the shift lever and shorten the shift rod. Whew…a lot I know but well worth it. Anyway it’s all there in detail with measurements etc. in the Download Manuals section.
Good luck on your work and ask away if you have questions. And register in the TD registry. You’ll see a number of Floridians here. Perhaps you can hook up with one near you.

I built and own a Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess. This is Classic Roadsters’ approach (starts on page 16 of the PDF). It worked for me!
This is Fiberfab’s approach.
This is CMC’s approach (starts on [page 11 of the PDF).
All of the above are links to copies of the manuals stored in tdreplica.com’s “Download Manuals” section.

August 15, 2011 at 9:28 pm #245801I am a new owner of a ’52 FiberFab Kit on a VW Chassis.
I found this web site because I too need to move the
pedals – a lot closer!! to the seat. I need to move the
pedals at least 12″ closer, but I don’t think I want to
go into cutting all of those holes in the tunnel. I am
thinking of finding another pedal assembly and mounting
it to the floor pan at the distance most comfortable for
driving and then connect the pedals together with rods.
Has anyone done this or even know if it will work?
All information and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
August 15, 2011 at 9:34 pm #245802dkbryant, welcome to the forum. On the download manuals link to the left look under fiberfab migi no weld peddle cluster. I think this is close to what you are looking for.
August 15, 2011 at 10:01 pm #245803The no-weld approach Mike refers to is the one at the “Fiberfab”link in my post a couple notes up.
Apparently Fiberfab believed in this approach. So I guess it works. But I’ve never seen one done this way in “real life.”

August 16, 2011 at 5:42 pm #245804Sorry Paul. I guess I wasnt paying close enough attention that you had already posted a link that would take him right to the peddle cluster.
