I found this group/forum a few weeks ago when we
purchased a VW based ’52 MGTD. The first obstacle was I
am too short to reach the pedals, but the car is at a
mechanic shop now having the pedals moved closer to the
seat.
Now that I am reasonably sure that I will be driving the
car, the next thing needed is tires and wheels. I went
through most of the forum postings and want to make sure
I understand what I think I read. I want the look of the
original wheels with the baby moon style hub caps. Am I
correct that the most reasonable priced steel wheels are
from CIP1.com?
If we do get the wheels from CIP1, the hubcaps can be
ordered from JCWhitney, and MG center caps from Moss
Motors?
Does anyone have a recommendation on where to shop for
tires? carpet kit? horn? and radio antenna?
I know this is a lot of questions and I will gladly
reciprocate by answering any questions anyone may have
about restoring Ford Mustangs, something that my husband
and I have been doing for the past 10 years or so.

Hey, Donna, welcome to the club!
So you bought a VW-based car with no wheels? If that’s the case, Cip1 does have a fair selection. But there are many others. Cheapest might be a junk yard or your local craigslist, where steel wheels of all kinds can usually be had for $5-$10 each. You wire brush off the rust & hit ’em with some Krylon and they should suffice.
I’d be careful of cheap chrome from any source. I hear it rusts fast.

I guess I did not explain correctly, the car does have
wheels now – just needs new ones. Currently have 2 chrome
and 2 steel. The chrome is in real bad shape and probably
easier and cheaper to replace. The tires are holding air
but are really cracked and most likely dry rot. I will try
posting a picture.

CIP1 is an excellent vendor, good prices, good reputation. and they do have the tires you need:

They are a bit pricey. But there are very few sources these days. So we can expect to see the prices continue to rise.

I got my tires at a local shop. Had three bid the job and ended up paying about $380, if memory serves, to get 4 new ones mounted, balanced, out the door. Yeah, pretty expensive but that’s that for 5 years or so–not much chance of wearing them out.
I just did the carpets on my car using a $100 roll of “marine” carpet from Home Despot. Had to order it on line–way more carpet than needed–enough for the car and the boat, I think. I chose black ’cause it’s what all the TDs had–low cut pile with no edge binding. There are lots of other colors to be had though. Get some righteous automotive grade padding (I used gym foam; we’ll see how that holds) and the 3M trim adhesive–the heavy duty kind–to stick the carpet up the sides of the tub, as needed. Easy and fun; you’ll love those fumes!
edsnova40780.9271412037I bought auto loop carpet on Ebay for $16 per yard. (40″ wide) If you still have the old carpet, just use that for a pattern. My wife and I cut 1 inch strips of leather, vinyl would work fine, and she sewed that around all pieces as edging. I used a sound deadener as a underlayment and cemented it all down. Much quieter and cooler and looks great. No huge skill needed, and a fraction of the kits that you can buy.
