The driver’s side fender mirror was missing upon the pick up of my new car, so I noticed it right away as it showed up in the photos.
Moss Motors has a replacement in either flat or convex glass. What are your thoughts on which one I should get?
October 15, 2011 at 6:52 pm #247004Most go with flat on drivers side and convex on the other side. You might also check on ebay as they are often available for much less than Moss.
October 15, 2011 at 6:55 pm #247005Ok are you missing the whole mirror assembly-or just the mirrored glass? If its just the glass go to a glass shop, should be able get one while you wait for $5
October 15, 2011 at 7:07 pm #247006The part of the bracket that bolts to the fender is still there, but the end is a ball where the mirror would attach.I need more than just the glass. I need the backing/holder for it, too. The passenger side doesn’t want to stay in position, so I might just replace both.
After dropping over $1,600 on the brakes, I’m not going to quibble over $10.00, but thanks, I’ll check it out. The seller just sent me a $25.00 check to cover the mirror, although he gave me the wrong Moss Motors part number.
October 15, 2011 at 7:18 pm #247007I prefer convex on both sides. It allows a wider view of what’s going on beside the car. It takes some getting used to since most cars have the mirrors on the doors instead of on the fenders but with proper adjustment and practice using them your confidence will improve.
October 15, 2011 at 8:02 pm #247008I agree with Larry. I replaced both fender mirrors with flat. They are totally useless. I wish I had gone with convex on both fenders. I did the same with peep mirrors on both sides. Should have used convex on passenger side. The driver side peep works great. I also installed a dash mirror, which I use mostly.
October 15, 2011 at 8:22 pm #247009I might have waited a few minutes to read all these replies. I ordered a flat for the driver’s side and a convex to replace the passenger side.. At $16.95 a pop, they aren’t going to break the bank.
The center rear view mirror on the dash is also wobbly and needs to be readjusted frequently.
October 16, 2011 at 10:36 am #247010Convex on BOTH sides.
You will not regret it!

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 16, 2011 at 6:14 pm #247012I actually tried both and found those fender mirrors, for me, were for appearance only. I added 2 3″ side mirrors just behind the wind wings. Had to make my own brackets, MUCH more useful.
October 16, 2011 at 7:02 pm #247013I had flat on both fenders.
Replaced them with convex. You can see fine to both sides.

October 16, 2011 at 7:07 pm #247014Most of our cars came with original style TD dash mirrors.
In a word…they stink. Very little adjustment range. And they are not steady.
I bought a”Cobra” from FinishLine for my TD. Broad adjustment range. It as steady as it can be, sitting on a fiberglass dash in a car that is bolted and riveted together!

October 16, 2011 at 8:55 pm #247015Thanks for the link, Paul, but I don’t see “Cobra” on that list.
October 16, 2011 at 9:47 pm #247016Paul, That mirror looks a lot like the Austin mirror I have.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 16, 2011 at 10:02 pm #247017I saw the product number and the item. My problem with that site is a 20% restocking fee if it doesn’t fit in my vehicle.
October 16, 2011 at 10:27 pm #247018MR600 is about the same height as the MG style dash mirror. And it fits mine fine.
Re the Cobra comment: This is the style of mirror used on Cobras, and I am sure other cars. If you wander around Finish Line’s website you will see they are predominantly a Cobra parts supplier.
