Ed, Schu,
Looking forward to running with you and the Speedster group this weekend. Looks like we’re going to have nice weather…although I am NOT looking forward to being on the road before 6:00 a.m.!In honor of the event, here’s a nice pic of an MG & Speedster racing in Venezuela in 1953.Paul Mossberg

October 12, 2012 at 11:50 am #252089Not from the same event, but I find it amusing the driver in this picture is named Bill.
Looks like he’s related to our own Bill “open door” autocrosser!Paul Mossberg

October 12, 2012 at 1:54 pm #252090Notice the driver in the second photo. Looks like his left hand is holding the door shut by the inside handle. Maybe it was Bill’s dad or uncle.

October 12, 2012 at 4:02 pm #252092The space suit would be to keep all the body parts together when you fall out.

Just an old drving suit, with a helmet and motorcycle style bubble face mask.I’d bet this is some sort of stunt performance. The car looks to be moving pretty slowly. That old camera was able to freeze the car, the wheels and the background. To me, that means slow speeds! Also, I have NEVER seen any old race photos with the driver using that bubble mask style.PMOSSBERG2012-10-12 16:11:15

October 12, 2012 at 7:27 pm #252094Maybe he’s doing that drive the car slowly on two wheels trick. And Bill….don’t try that stunt without us being there to see and render assistance (if needed).

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 12, 2012 at 8:50 pm #252095Somebody on the way home today asked if my car had a roll bar.
!
That one with the astronaut could be going fast or slow. Desert shot, full sun. F22 and a 1/500 shutter would stop it pretty good, 1/1000 would absolutely stop the action. I don’t see a mini ramp to put the car up.
Could be there, could be a demo. But it could be something else too, I think.
Looking forward to seeing Paul & Dale tomorrow. Put the slow charger on the battery just now because she wouldn’t start after I stopped for gas during the slow crawl home. Slow crawls with generator cars that have not been run much lately, with headlights and radio on, apparently can result in the need for a jump start.
Good to know.
October 13, 2012 at 8:21 am #252096My guess was that he is in the process of coming back down from a 2 wheel run.
The right side isn’t high enough to continue on just the left wheels.I think the camera caught him as he’s dropping it.Nontheless, it’s impressive. I wouldn’t have attempted that, even when I was drinking.Bill Ascheman

I’m sure Ed was taking lots of shots from the car. I look forward to seeing them!

October 14, 2012 at 11:11 am #252098Nice to see Paul and Dale yesterday, along with an array of Speedster knuckleheads. Bridget made it through without a hitch, even after needing a jump start at the gas station the night before. I think I’m in the market for a battery…
Blogged the trip here. We got a couple pics from the cockpit, but nothing as good as last year–by assignment, we were behind the late model Mustang the whole time.
Still, a good selection of snapshots:

This is my year to host my family’s Christmas, so we are busy doing repairs and painting and all the other crap that goes with it. I’m still surprised she agreed to the VA Beach trip.Bill Ascheman
