I had to share this article.
My friend Steve has a couple MGBs and is restoring an MG TD. His daghter Terri wrote an essay for her college applications, and Steve liked it so much he sent it to Dutch Mandel, Senior Editor of AutoWeek.Mandel published it!Click here http://www.autoweek.com/ and scroll down to “Columns” on the left side to see Terri Lynn Clarke and a link to her column.Or click here to go straight to the column http://www.autoweek.com/article/20121107/CARNEWS01/121109867Paul Mossberg

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackNovember 8, 2012 at 12:43 pm #252789Many of my fondest memories of time shared with my two sons were born in our garage. Whether overhauling our 1966 VW Beetle, our 1955 MGTF-1500 or my son’s first car, a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl OHC, or converting my other son’s VW Dasher from the pathetically underpowered diesel to a gas engine.
They both now are confident and fearless when it comes to repairs. Their first response to problems of any sort (not just cars) is to go grab some tools. Makes me proud. Sonny has owned a 1969 Corvette for the last 24 years and Chris bought a 1964 TR4 5 years ago after selling his 1948 Willys CJ2A which he owned for about 15 years. Thanks for the nice article Paul.November 8, 2012 at 4:51 pm #252790Great story, and how true , we forget some of the little things that make our kids closer .we are all car guys . It just hit me – did your son come w/ his TR to Va Beach? If so I missed him.November 8, 2012 at 5:32 pm #252792Dale, he came but was still sick. Only stayed for a moment and left. Tks for asking.
November 8, 2012 at 9:26 pm #252793Love that article. And Roy: you must have done something right. I think I may have shook your son’s hand the other day.
That idea that the first response to a challenge or problem is to grab some tools? It’s weird now but I think that’s gonna come back. Big.
November 8, 2012 at 9:51 pm #252794Yep Ed you did meet my young architect son Chris briefly. He’d normally love to stand and talk cars but he didn’t feel well and didn’t even walk around and look at all the cars on the field. I got very lucky with both my boys – the older one, a retired Navy pilot, currently an American Airlines pilot.

I figure “got lucky with both my boys” = “good parenting”She’s just a freshman in college, but I think I “got lucky” with my daughter too!edsnova2012-11-09 19:46:31
