Broke the Clutch Cable on my Roadster. Took the broken cable out and it looks like a VW Beetle cable that has to be cut and spliced to shorten the cable. New cable about 89 inch’s and cable needed about 69 inch’s. 2 U-clamps used to splice cable together after shortening the cable. Not as bad a job as I thought. They don’t make cable that last anymore, only lasted 27 year’s.

That’s the standard way for attaching the VW clutch cable. You you 3-4 inches back from the threaded part and secure the two halves (after installing) with two cable clamps. I recommend changing the cable clamps as well. They only cost a couple of dollars and you have all new hardware working under there. Should last another 27 years!

You don’t need to cut the cable either. Mine’s looped and clamped.

Job done and now I can get my inspection. Hooking the cable back on the clutch pedal asm. was a pain, not much room.

    Dick,

Sure you need a inspection? In VA w/ a vintage tag it is not required – I did not know that till the last minute and was informed.

NY requires a safety inspection every year.
