    @schu

    Went for a ride on saturday – guy pulled out in front of me and threw a rock right in my viewing area and now have a bodybig chip. Hopefully it can be fixed or I will need to replace the glass. Anybody ever replace? Cost? Ideas?

    Some glass chips can be repaired, so I’d suggest you have a glass shop look at.

    The windshield, being small, and most importantly – absolutely flat, means that a glass shop can cut a new one for you out of stock materials on hand.  My guess would be somewhere between $150-200 without installation.

     Mine has been replaced, and the top 4″ or so are tinted.

    As far as “dang the luck” – I bought a new Dodge pickup about 10 years ago and on the drive home from the dealer got a huge chip in the windshield… so I can feel your pain.

      had to replace my windshield about 2 years ago. Cost to replace was $110. I pulled frame from car and took it to a local glass shop. He installed flat auto glass in the frame glass is a slightly tinted,  done in less than an hour. I live in California.

    SafeLite (I believe that’s the name) is a national chain that has a good repair system and a lot of insurance companies will cover the cost of the repiair. At worst it leaves a little spot in the glass that looks like a water drop and after awhile you never notice it.

    George,
    I was initially going to say somewhere around $100, based upon the cost of the last flat VW windshield I had cut.  I guess I allowed too much for inflation… 😀

    Should be $100, maybe $150 since you live in an expensive area.

    Thanks guys – will call State Farm today and see if they will cover or at least discount. May try the fix first and then replace if not happy.

    State farm does not cover but gave me names using their discount. Nobody will repair in line of vision. I am going to try and fix myself w/ a repair kit. If not happy I will replace when I get back from Carlisle – wish me luck.
