Greetings!
I’m Eric from Pittsburgh, and I landed an unfinished FiberFab MG TD replica a couple of weeks ago. It popped up on Craigslist, and the wife and I hauled it home in our trailer that evening. It’s mostly complete.
The gentleman we bought it from purchased it from the original owner. Both were stymied by the dashboard wiring. I did some brief testing, got as far as the lights, smelled smoke, and pulled the battery negative. I pulled out the dash to get a better look. What I saw made my decision to yank all of the wiring and start over from scratch an easy one.
I’ve found a few other things I’d like to change and improve as well, and I’ll probably have some questions as I go. I’ll also post some photos once I figure out how. I’m either missing how to upload photos, or the interface isn’t intuitive. Until then, best regards.
Eric

June 22, 2020 at 8:48 pm #306998Eric, You will find a file in the Library detailing the wiring for a MiGi. Just start with one wire per switch or gauge and verify the integrity from end to end. One issue that many owners have reported is problems with the ground/earth/negative. As our cars have fibreglass bodies you have to run ground wires to each light, gauge etc. You may also want to consider replacing the VW fuse block. I used a marine grade fuse block and separated the circuits so as to make diagnostics of electrical problems easier to isolate. Last bit of advice is if you know how to use a Volt/Ohm meter then your job will be made considerably easier
