Been following this thread in the background. If I understand what I’m reading, most of you are running the original VW wiper switch rather than the 4-post switch that comes with the TD kits. Is this correct? I ask because I’m just now wiring my dash and if there is a problem with the kit wiper switch, now is the time to correct mine.

I got my wipers to park correctly by inserting a diode into the park circuit of the motor.

James, Good to have you back !! I enjoyed the hard top link. I did not know that they were fitted to the car using the quarter window attachment points. I wonder why they did not make them with quarter windows? Sure would have helped the visibility.

I was the doubter, or one of them. No offense meant. These cars only need 50 hp to move along smartly. I think I have less than that in mine and I’ve topped 75 mph on a two lane with plenty of room under my foot.Might put her on the dyno this year at Carlisle to see though.

Don, Just checked mine and it’s not much different. I lubed it a few years ago and haven’t had any problems. One time the bracket shifted and it caused a bind at the linkage, but the cable has had no problems.

Greg, I will have to be convinced that a stock T1 1600cc VW is capable of producing 85hp. Even with dual carbs, and a hot cam and a real extractor exhaust, I thing you would fall way short of 85 hp if it is a 1600. Could be that it is not a 1600 or that it was 55 which someone misread as 85. I would have to say: “don’t believe everything you…[Read more]

I just noticed that your cable brack looks unmodified. I recall the initial
installation instructions called for notching the bracket and changingthe angle that the cable approaches the throttle linkage. The factoryPinto cable had worked fine on that setup for years until I upgradedther engine. -

My engine runs an ’87 truck number. I forget the exact application, but
it fit the pedal and reached the carb. Spend a sunny afternoonin a salvage yard. -

If your problem is a 3/4-inch slab of wood for a dash, you could also use a blade drill to relieve the inside of it. Overdrill through the fiberglass first–an inch and a half diameter hole will more than do it; smaller is better. Then put a 1 1/8 inch wood bit in the wiper switch hole from the back. Crank it in a quarter inch and test fit the…[Read more]

Try getting a cable for a full size ford same year 78 with a Sraight 6.The cable should longer because the carb will be further from the firewall.

Also in the envelope: a bonus “camping” sticker in the name of a “James Ericson.” If anyone knows who that is, pipe up. Maybe I can send it to him.edsnova2012-04-23 18:42:44
