I want to add a booster to my Chevy engine that seems to have manual Chevette brakes. I found one shop that told me they could move the master cylinder to make room for a power booster. I also plan to get bigger rotors and discs.

I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t know!:-) We Ericsons cannot be intimidated, Paul. Seriously though, that’s quite a shop the guy has, and quite a set of skills and, well, quite an accent. I completely want to take his course, change my career, build myself an all-aluminum XK 120C and close the circle (my dad was a body & fender guy). Then I realize:…[Read more]

My grandmothers maiden name was Peterson or sen, reportedly out of Sweden. I’ve always wanted to visit there. Came as close as Denmark once.

Ditto what Allen said. Had the same thing happen back when I owned my 69 Camaro. Carb float got saturated and it acted like a bad fuel pump.ended up replacing the carb float and all was well.

Points are fine. Just remember to gap them (with a dwell meter, if possible) when you check/set the timing once each year. Unless you’re building an engine that needs to rev above 6500 or so there’s no “need” for electronic ignition. They’re just a bit more convenient. until they aren’t.

Most of the folks I know carry an extra set of points, plugs and condenser in a box under the seat regardless of what ignition system they have. Its an emergency kit we should all carry. I think Muir’s book covers thew essentials.

Possible stuck carb float needle valve or by any chance did you change the fuel pump? Disconnect the coil and the fuel lie at the carb. Have an assistant crank the engine while you catch the fuel coming out of the pump in a catch can. At 3 1/2 to 5 psi the fuel should flow out of the pump rather than a trickle. If it trickles out then I’d replace…[Read more]

Mark Konrad replied to the topic car quit running in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 4 months ago
Well Greg I have not a clue but because I am new at this, if you just got it back from the shop I’d make sure they fixed the problem and let you know what the problem was. Possible they caused the problem when they serviced it etc. They should make it right I’d think.

Mark Konrad replied to the topic Electric Problem Possible Coil Help needed in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 4 months ago
Well I took out the coil and had it checked and its ok. Have on order a new electronic iginition module. So I’ll see if that will fix the problem. Talk to several VW people here and the EI can fail any time with out notice.
So if takes care of the problem great but I am thinking I may want to convert to points instead, at some point… -

Paul, I am quite aware of the typical position of windscreen wiper motors on these cars. I noticed that the TC pic on top featured the motor on the drivers (right) side, which is unusual. Fact is, the motors could go on either side depending on how the car’s owner wanted it. Rather like changing the door swing on a modern refrigerator.Too easily…[Read more]
