Housemate in the early 1990s drove in with a ’66 Volvo wagon. Wasn’t in bad shape either, but hardly practical as an everyday car by that time. The water pump went in the first week, and she wanted to fix it herself, so I helped her do it. Not that hard a job. The car went at least another year but I don’t remember what became of it after that. My…[Read more]

I had a PV-544 sedan back in the 60’s. Got my racing start in it. A truly bullet proof engine, Looked like a transistorized 48 Ford seddan.

So my parts came in–new springs all-round, new rear shoes–and I pulled off the front wheels to see what was what.Passenger side adjuster was broken. There’s this little sheet metal springy thing that lays over the star wheels, apparently to keep them from turning on their own once you adjust them?Yeah, that thing. It was broken off. I found it…[Read more]

Mark,
Mel (LuvmyTD) loves in the Villages in Florida. He’s a member of a club. And there are at least two others that live in the Orlando area who may give you a couple of leads on clubs. -

The B-18b was also installed in the PV544-B18 Sport and the 122S. Both were early 4 seat sports sedans and surprised many a pure sports car of the era.

Motor was from a Volvo P-1800. It was called the B-18b and it had twin SUs like the xpag, but made 100 horsepower stock and there was a lot more in it. Plus you could get an overdrive transmission. Very smart and very common early ’60s swap to liven up by-then obsolete TDs, though it’s not much seen today–and it makes the MG purists crazy with contempt.

Buttoned down in Baltimore. Plants are mostly in the screen porch. Pulled up a pool-sized tarp I was using to kill everything growing on our backyard hill, so it wouldn’t blow away. Brought in the gas grills.Got the boat battery on trickle charge in case I need it for the sump pump backup. With the daily drivers and Bridget that’ll make five…[Read more]

As a veteran of countless hurricanes and tropical storms since 1960 here in Houston, my sincere best wishes are with all of you who either live in or have loved ones along the Eastern Seaboard. If you’ve never gone through a hurricane, you have no idea how truly terrifying they can be. And the cleanup afterward can be dangerous, too. While…[Read more]
