Since it’s said to be a 74 (IRS) chassis you’ll need a dual circuit master cylinder. You should see two electrical plugs, two blue colored brake resevoir hoses and three metal brake tubes where the master cylinder would be if it were there. All the brake parts can be purchased at Mid America Motorworks, CIP1, Bughaus and a few others. I’d stay…[Read more]

There are different ways but the easiest is to check the photo gallery up top and look for a car like yours. ALSO, PMossberg and I believe Edsnova are working the differences between the kits on another thread. A photo of yours will help to as I’m sure many members will beable to tell you. I have a CMC Fiberfab and am new to the TD kit cars. Been…[Read more]

British Coach Works Model 52
Windshields – Folding windshield standard. Frame similar to original with pins to attach hood (soft top), but is not interchangeable with original TD windscreen. Cowl brackets do interchange.
Front grill – Reproduction MG TD (chrome over brass) grill and slats. On a VW, grill is backed by fiberglass. On…[Read more] -

Seen those snaps before, and I am pretty sure I saw the car featured on a Top Gear episode a while back. (British version). The bit wasn’t about that car, but the car was used to get from place to place for the bit.

Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess (VW Based)
Windshields – Not a folding windshield. As an option, they sold covers for the sides of the frame to give them the look of a folding frame.
Front grill – Reproduction MG TD grill and slats. On a VW, grill is still open so you “see through it”.Hood (Bonnet) – Opens from driver’s side, e…[Read more] -

On Ed’s folding windshield comment…Want a folding windshield?
MEASURE THE WIDTH OF THE COWL!!!
Then, and only then, if it is the same width as an original TD, buy one and bolt it on. -

The Allison Daytona has the correct type side curtains with their own frames. Rich Wobby has a VW-powered one of these, and I think his windshield folds as well. He’s also got a totally enclosed steering shaft. On my car (a BCW VW) and some other VW kits, the shaft is routed outside the body work for a few inches down near the front fender. Dead…[Read more]

There are many differences between manufacturers, in terms of “authenticity” and even more differences in fit and finish depending on whether the car was factory built or home built.
Mark already mentioned the BCW, one of the nicer and more authentic “kits”. Classic Roadsters was also one of the better ones, but I’m biased!
I don’t have a c…[Read more] -

That was fast!
Are there qualitative differences between the manufacturers? Fit and finish, fiberglass thickness, gelcoat, original parts?
I’ve seen a folding windshield in some of the gallery photos. Was that an option from some manufacturers or is that a windshield from an original?
There is a lot of variation in side curtains. Some are one…[Read more] -

I use AMSOIL Premium Protection. It comes in 10w-40 and 20w-50 viscosities. It had the ZDDP package. I use the 10w-40 for my flat tappet SBC 350 in the ’84 Chevy C-10 that my son drives.
My VW is modified for full flow oiling has a 1 quart remote filter (WIX #51515). So, it takes 117 ounces (3 qts./21 oz.) per change.
Due to the fact I have fi…[Read more] -

Welcome PC.
One thing to consider when choosing a drivetrain is the availability of parts, both OEM and aftermarket.
Unfortunately, the Chevy Chevette/Pontiac T-1000 has absolutely no aftermarket for “performance” stuff. There are still “maintenance” parts available…filters, hoses, tune-up parts, gaskets, etc. But that’s it. The leading…[Read more] -

My Duchess is VW based, but the roof lines are all similar.
I am 6’2″ and have no problem with visibility in any direction.
But the best solution to limited views through the side curtains is to simply leave the top down all the time! -
