Steve Crites replied to the topic vibration in drive train chevette in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years, 7 months ago
Since the Chevette uses a torque tube drive the rear mount is extra sensitive to being bolted exactly centered. If you’ve had it out and are replacing it, recheck the centering of the u-joint to the rear yoke. You may have to shift it a little, tighten, test drive, move it in or out, tighten, test drive, repeat. If that doesn’t help, check the b…[Read more]

Denora, Click on the search button at the top and type in Chevette drive shaft and you will see some discussion about the problem you describe.
Do you know if the drive shaft has been balanced? Is the rear u-joint centered properly in the rear end? Are both U-joints free of tight spots[not binding] and not sloppy fitting?
Check for excessive p…[Read more] -

The fenders are already black maybe I should have the red body painted white. That was an idea but I thought it would be hard to keep clean. Maybe I should rethink this. Glad to hear regular paint will work. I am not trying to make a show car just a fun little weekend toy.Just got my car home from the shop today they did a tune up a rewired the…[Read more]

Dan & Ed, Thanks for the kind words. I was answering Ringo’s question with my ”lightening fast” one finger typing and you two got in there before I finished.

Thanks Ringo. I copied the boot cover that came with my London Roadster. On both my cars, the top stays fully attached when lowered. The boot cover snaps on to the same points that the side curtains attach to on the sides of the body. There is a section of bungie cord about 30 inches long fitted into the hem of the boot cover approximately over…[Read more]

Never heard of such. Like the idea though.

Clean job, Larry. That spare tire rack looks best in body color, I think.

I had fender mirrors at one time, I can see the patch job.
My post cover mount mirrors with the MG dash mirror work well for me, but I also keep my head on a swivel. Looking all around is one of the best reasons to not put the top up.

Beautiful work as always. Your attention to detail always shows.
Best looking cover I’ve seen!Did you use the original body snaps?

Larry, pga64 and others have it right. The fender mirrors do work IF they are convex.

I just flipped my tie rods over to be below the arms. Cip1 has the little sleave you need. This corrects the geometry and keeps the tie rods from hitting the body. Also prevents “bump steer” on lowered cars.

Mycar came with the fender mounted mirrors and a round Harley mirror on the dash. I could see a spot right behind me but nothing to either side so I put a TD style mirror on the dash and that works great. I bought a left side mirror from Mg Magic that clamps onto the windshield and it works great! I had to insert a chunk of aluminum into the…[Read more]

The boat repair/repainter I bought my MiGi from sugested painting with a high quality and durable paint called Imron (by DuPont, I believe). He even offered to paint it for me if I did the prep work. I would probably not paint a fiberglass car black because it shows all the little imperfections that are inherant to fiberglass. Did you ever notice…[Read more]

Larry,
I like the idea of the vinyl on the area behind the rear seat. I might doo that with my CMC FiberFab kit except for the floor and wheel well arches behind the rear seat area. I’ll carpet those. I guess I could use some butcher paper to make templates for a place here in town that does seats and tops. They may do the carpets for me if I…[Read more] -

Allen, In most TD replicas, the area behind the seat and the front side panels are covered with carpet. The London Roadster and Classic Roadster Duchess used vinyl every where except the floor and tunnel. This is the way that the original MG’s were done. For the most part it is simply a matter of covering some type of backing board with the…[Read more]

Donna, Some of our members have used the Maaco franchise for their paint work.I’m not for sure but I think Jeniken used them . See his photo gallery ,it shows to what extent his car was disassembled for the paint job. I recently saw a 39 Chev sedan that they did. The car was a quality street rod $40,000 The paint looked really good.It will not…[Read more]
