Larry replied to the topic Allison Daytona MGTD in the forum TD Replicas 17 years, 4 months ago
The Allison story continues with Kenny Allison making dune buggies before the TD’s. After the TD’s he went into renovating the inside of busses for rock stars of the 80’s that traveled from city to city. He used only quality materials in the TDs & they sold then for $ 15,000. Yes, as Larry Murphy said,”They are quality cars”. Anytime any of you…[Read more]

Larry replied to the topic Allison Daytona MGTD in the forum TD Replicas 17 years, 4 months ago
Hey guys,I’m impressed with the interest generated & questions. As Larry Murphy stated , it was sold to me new in 1982 as a “completed” car. And again he is right in that it came from Port Orange, Fl. ( a suburb of Daytona). The wipers are stock VW as is the power train but the engine was bored out to 1700 cc creating 102 hp. It rides & drives…[Read more]

Paul, Thank you very much for the model ID. I have not seen this model
featured much in the other photos. I am going to try to make the seats I
have work but I suppose the 3 point belts is a “want” not a need.
Thanks for the scoop on brakes. I have not driven it long enough to tell
about the brakes yet. Just trying to look long run. I am…[Read more] -

Re. Allison MGTD ,Larry’s car is only the 2’ndone I have seen. The other one was ror sale on e-bay 2-3 mo. ago. It was a front engine model with Nissan mechanical components.I think Larry’s is VW based as I See VW front suspension under the rf fender. Allison made a quality car and to the best of my knowledge all may have been sold as completed…[Read more]

I have a spare Chevette 4 speed trans that was totally remanufactured. It was shelf stock in a transmission shop that closed. After 45 years in business, the guy sold all of his equipment and parts and retired.
In order to change or work on a trans in a BCW car, you’ll have to remove the engine and trans as a unit and tear half the interior out…[Read more] -

Andre, Neil,
The windscreen on Larry’s car appears to be an OEM MG-TD unit. I’ll bet a the wipers are VW Beetle.
I know for a fact that the British Coach Works replica’s came with all authentic MG-TD hardware, like the windscreen, etc. It’s not a chrome tin cover that is covering the “marine” windscreen used on most of the other kits. It even…[Read more] -

Hi Chuck,
Beautiful car. Good luck!
You have a Classic Roadsters Duchess. The give-away is the small bump in the rear fenders where they meet the running boards.
You asked about the seats and seat belts.
My very off the record suggestion…get over it. 🙂
The best way to attach three point belts is in cars with a roll bar. If you have a roll bar,…[Read more] -

Thanks for all the replies. I will try to figure out how to attach some
photos. Todd, I am indeed on beautiful Whidbey Island. Have been here
18 years and have still not seen everything. Dreaming of some nice
drives around the island and out to the San Juans!I noticed some responses about switching over to disc brakes. I have to…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic turn signal wiring in the forum VW Based Kits 17 years, 5 months ago
Based solely on my experience with my Classic roadsters Duchess, the fender mirrors bolt through fibergalss only…they are no where near any metal that is, in turn, connected to the chassis.
Your kit may be different. And if the mirrors do bolt through metal that is somehow connected to the chassis, then yes, you coudl run a short ground wire…[Read more] -

Todd,
The beauty of the kit car world…it’s all up to owner choice.
I ran wire wheel covers for t efirst 20 years my TD replica was on the road.
Then I switched to a steel wheel painted in the correct TD gray, with chrome hubcaps with original TD centers. the caps are not exact to the TD style…but close enough. Take a look in the pmossberg gallery. -

Todd replied to the topic Title, Registration, Inspection Reqs in the forum General Discussion 17 years, 5 months ago
I’m registering my Fiberfab in Pa right now. Unfortunately the Florida title does not list the same VIN that is on my beetle frame. If it did it would be a simple matter of getting tags, and insurance and inspecting within 10 days. But I have to reconstruct the title, and pay for an extended inspection.
