Schu,
Do you by chance remember what type of SUV you got the heat shield from. We have a pick and pull that I can peruse to find one.

David,
They way mine is set up it is the exhaust pipe that is against the apron vs the muffler. I ended up wrapping the pipe with exhaust heat wrap and then wired the shield to the pipe with stainless exhaust clamps used for the heat wrap and it worked just fine for the last two years.

We have a 1952 MG TD replica(Fiberfab) on a 1971 VW chassis. Runs very strong, no oil leakage and no smoke. Wood dash has been finished in Danish oil and several coats of minwax wood wax. Clutch is good, brakes are good. Good top. Driver’s bottom seat has very small tear. But we dont drive it so it is not getting any worse. Like brand new t…[Read more]

Did you apply the tape to the splash pan or to the muffler?Dale
Unfortunately we don’t have Pik & Pay wrecking yards here. Years ago one could wander through the yards, remove what you needed and then pay at the gate. Last time I went to a salvage yard to find some wheels for winter tires was told that due to liability and insurance costs…[Read more] -

I painted the bottom of my splash pan with white “high heat” paint, then applied the high heat tape from Advance Auto. No trouble since, and the Suby muffler is even closer and hotter than the VW one was.

David,
I had the same problem and tried all sorts of heat shield tape and other things to eliminate the problem and in the end it I found a heat shield at a junk yard from a modern SUV that shields the CAT from the bottom of the car – I assume it contains some type of very protective product that keeps the 1500-2000 degree CAT from catching the…[Read more]

I installed the Empi 3487 muffler as recommended and it did fit well. Only complaint was that connection to preheat tubes were not open and some alignment issues were encountered with flange that was corrected with a sawzall and MIG welder. Problem that has now been encountered is with heat from muffler, it has bubbled the paint on the splash pan.…[Read more]

The last 8 sections of fiberglass are back from painting. I have received all the remaining lights and chrome from my suppliers. I plan to have the VW powered TDr ready for the daughters wedding soon. Wish me luck.

Hey Folks — Looking forward to it!!
Ed, I did not get to see your fiberglass and paint handiwork since I did not make Carlisle this year — I’d love to hear the tale first hand — and see the finished product!!
I second the invite to folks who have not made it to Va Beach for the event in the past — it is a GREAT venue — plus we have found…[Read more]

The phone # for the Oceanfront Inn is 757 422 0445. Tell them that you are with the group of TDr’s going to the Air and Auto Car show at the Military Aviation Museum in Pungo. My room is booked ($72 per night). It’s still early and they do not have any large (one year they had a large wedding booked, but we squeezed in) reservations yet, but…[Read more]

Love this event…but am a definite maybe this year.
Trying to schedule my third surgery of the year. One foot procedure and one meniscus repair already done. One more foot deal to go. The best time may be mid to late September. I’ll be off my feet for four to five weeks post-op. Stay tuned….

What exactly DOES this have ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING?! 😕
I think it’s just more mass junk.
This is like going to the Grand Canyon for the view and seeing a billboard for a Las Vegas strip club! 😡

Don’t forget that when you get the new or rebuilt generator installed you will have to “flash” the generator to set up its magnetic properties in the windings. Simple job that some folks forget about.

Thanks for the good info. Toller, I like the idea of that checklist. Perhaps you can dig it out and post it here on the forum. It definitely sounds like something we can all use.
As for bleeding the brakes, this is the second time in a year I’ve had to do this. Air appears to be seating into the closed system. With all the bleeders and metal…[Read more]
