Thanks, guys. It’s the driver’s side. (counter-clockwise to tighten). But I only need the pinch bolt. The split nut seems to be undamaged.

Shu. If you can’t find any let me know. I have two new ones (one of each) in my parts bin. Left over from a Beetle I did a few years before getting the TDr. I’ll mail them up to you Ed if Shu doesn’t find his. I don’t foresee using them.

Ed
I will take a look in my VW coffee can- I might – which side do you need?
Turning right to tighten or turning left to tighten?

Or not enough!
Hey does anyone have one of these bearing adjuster pinch bolts you could mail me? I’d buy two new nuts but the shipping from Cip1 will kill me and I don’t have a long enough shopping list to get to free shipping….

Went to put on the front wheels tonight to get Bridget back to rolling status. Whoops.
Ratza-fratza…
Here’s an interesting observation I hope Roy (he of the vast wire wheel experience) will clear up:
The left (driver’s) side wire wheel hub spins on clockwise (i.e. normal threads). But the bearing keepers on that side spin on counter-clockwise. Hmmm.

Sounds great Sam. Hope it was just the old style charger and the starting problems are behind you.

Allen, I think so, but honestly I don’t remember for sure. I went to get the car today from my son’s house and it started just fine and no problems on the drive home.
Kall, I’m glad I didn’t pitch the “old” charger. I think that would have been a mistake and added to my list of many that have been made over the years.

Hi guys, I am selling my TDr. I bought Morgan Trike replica and I need the space. This is a great little car. could use some paint or not. Needs a top but has a tonneau. There is still some fiddling with cosmetics but otherwise it is a good running car. I have it listed at a lower…[Read more]

One thought about battery chargers. The ” smart” chargers now on the market are a lot more complex than those of only a few years ago. Those that sense battery condition may refuse to charge a battery that is outside of the charger’s working window; it acts as if the battery isn’t even there. Problems like this may require (oh no) reading th…[Read more]

Sam. When you changed the starter did you also change the bushing in the transaxle case? If not it may be the problem. The bushing costs very little. Something in the $3.00 range. Again just another thought of many you will receive.

I’m still at a loss as to what the real problem was/is. I had a starter problem when I first bought the car and had to replace the starter then. The car is still at my son’s house so I haven’t been able to do much with it yet.

If it’s icing you’ll know easy. It does happen! I had it happen in Bridget on a sunny July day, and just going round the corner. Also had the idle shut-off solenoid lose its wire once. Had to have a neighbor help push me the last 100 feet up the hill to my driveway.
