I’ve been going through very similar agony myself in the last few days. My local VW mechanic has been suggesting for the last few months I should change from the old style points to electronic ignition. I purchased a total ignition overhaul kit; coil, distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs AND Compu-tronix (formerly Pertronix)electronic ignition…[Read more]

Hi capeclassics
You will have to remove the front bumper and the front bumper support assembly. The front bumper support uses the torsion tube assembly bolts.
You cans see what I am writing about on page 26 of Classic Roadsters Duchess assembly manual, 4th page of this…[Read more]

According to the Bentley Manual for my 71 Beetle with 4 drum brakes I should have “all cars with four wheel drum brakes have residual pressure valves between the master cylinder outlets and the pressure lines. I’ve never heard of these Residual Pressure Valves. Anyway…Has anyone ever heard of these and does anyone sell these Residual Pressure V…[Read more]

Great pic of your son…His shirt is too clean…needs a little grease on it! He should be changing the oil and adjusting the valves by the time he’s two years old…Enjoy the journey, My Brother. My oldest son made me a Grandfather, last fall…My wife’s ecstatic…I’m too young! I’m still trying to figure out where I put all of that time that…[Read more]

Thank you both! The weather was not cooperative this week or else I would have taken Zella for a spin.
I was, on the other hand, able to get a bunch of other work finished in the garage all while having my 8-month old job boss looking on.

WOW! Your air filter creation looks Great! I have the same clearance problem and I’ve been using the smaller air filter on top of the carb since I’ve owned my car. I like your set-up much better!

Allen,
Glad you got it – you will laugh about it – some day…
I had the same problem so just left the dizzy and reversed the wires – still that way today 10 plus years so far – should have suggested it before you had your meltdown – sorry about that – I have been there many times as well.

Hard to eat crow but I’m eating it. Problem getting the dizzy shaft out was the tool. It wasn’t sitting in the top of the shaft enough. Took a break and tried again and out it came. Got her al back together and there was no Wveem. That’s because of the TD style muffler. Sounds nice. I’ll give her a god breaking run tomorrow. Sorry about my…[Read more]

Well I’ve been at it for 2 hours and so far I have gotten the distributer shaft up out of the hole 1/8 inch. Need it up 1/2 inch minimum to turn the shaft. Better if I can get it out all the way and inspect it. If I have to pull the engine to fix it……I’M DONE. The whole kit and caboodle gone. This Fiberfab has been messing with me since Ive…[Read more]

Yesterday afternoon I got the final release from the doc on my shoulder replacement with the only restriction not to bench press “more than 100 pounds.” He’s a funny guy! So back to Moneypenny full time now. Pulled the fuel pump and mount yesterday when I got home from the doc. The plan is to use my distributor shaft puller and while rotating the…[Read more]

Greetings All
I’ts been a while since I’ve chimed in but I can offer another suggestion…I did the same project a few years back in The Penny Marie and I had success when I borrowed a slide hammer from Autozone. I just slit the expanding tip into the bushing and tightened it up. I then used the slide hammer to knock it out. It worked like a…[Read more]

Update on my question of how to remove the starter bushing from the transmission bell housing. Rob and Dave’s web site really gave no direct answer, other then remove the bushing before you install a new starter. There were several suggestions on the Samba web site, suggesting to use a 7 mm easy out, and clamping onto the easy out with vice grips…[Read more]

dang. Back to the “how do I post a photo” rag. Sorry Allen.
I understand what it means to have the disty in backwards, out 180 degrees. So if that’s what you’re talking about, easy fix. Try it one way. She no a-start, pull it out, turn it 180, and try it again….
Good luck!
