Even better. Here’s what the manual shows. My offset is in the opposite direction. But I have another manual that says the way I have it is correct.

Thanks Ed. I’ll take a pic when I come back from my doc visit and post it. I’pretty sure I’m off 180 degrees off on the distributor shaft.

Offset to the distributor shaft?
I’m not sure what that is, Allen. Seems we have another thread where pics would help.

If I had it to do again I’d go with a 2-inch narrowed beam.
In your case it sounds like maybe the body or fenders aren’t centered just right, which is probably not all that unusual. You might be able to find some adjustment but it’s a whole other project.
Yes, the new beam can be swapped in without removing the fenders—at least it could on my c…[Read more]

OK,I’m thinking about going with the adjustable axle on my Duchess which currently has the original hacked (cut and turned torsion bar with heavy weights in the front )set up.First question:can the axle be swapped out without having to remove any fenders or other body parts?
second question:does it make sense to go with the 2inch narrowed axle or…[Read more]

Well tried to time the engine today. Something just didn’t look right but everything was connected. Engine just wouldn’t start. So off came the distributor and recheck. The distributor shaft was rubbing the electronic ignition module (Campfire) at the high point. So off with the ignition module and back to the points and condenser. Started to…[Read more]

No I never did get around to getting it copied. I need to though.
Thanks, I finally got the intake welded up. Needs polished but it fits okay. By the time I got it finished I started getting the hang of TIG welding again. It’ll do for now but I’m going to build another one that extends down into the passenger side of the fake gas tank. On…[Read more]

Coming along nicely. Have you had a chance to copy the build manual? I would sure like a copy. And how’s the baby? Change your life?

This link will enable you to confirm the vintage of your engine

You can purchase one of the new indexed crank pulleys from most VW retailers or if you want to keep engine stock you will have to search forums like Samba or go to swap meets to purchase a used pulley. If you opt for…[Read more] -

Haha those who are close to me know I’d rather take the hard road and build it myself than buying something off the shelf. Something I’ve inherited from both sides of my family, no doubt. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve been blessed with a great career that allows me to enjoy multiple hobbies.
The stainless was actually left over from a previous p…[Read more]

FUN!
New motto for TDr clubbers: “Why buy something when I can fab it up with a just few days work and for only twice the price?”

Yep that would definitely work! I’ve spent enough time fitting up my pieces, I’m not turning back now. 😉
One more piece to cut tonight on the band-saw and I’ll be ready for tacking for fitment then weld it solid. Overkill, but a one-off piece of overkill.
It may not happen this year, but when I replace the wiring harness most of the wi…[Read more]

Just thought the forum might be interested to know that my TDR now has a deposit for sale at $13,000. I consigned it to Gateway Classic Cars in St. Louis and they sold it in a little over two months: http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/saint-louis/1952/mg/td-S7203.html.
Even though the price seems fairly good, by the time I consider the cost of…[Read more]
