Thanks for posting that, Paul. I think I want to do it…
And yeah, Allen, there have been a couple cruises from the Carlisle field that included covered bridges. Probably time to resurrect.

I consider the second one a spare. If the one you’re using ever fails, clean the terminals and plug in the other one.

I think mine is the standard circa 1970 type with both switches, but I think only the forward one is connected/functional. Thought I had a picture of it from when I was trying to find out why I lost brake lights (loose switch connections), couldn’t locate that to be sure about the wiring.

I got that solved today when I connected the battery. Turned the light switch to parking lights and saw the light come on. Stepped on the brake pedal and that’s when I located the correct wire. Oddly enough I had the correct wires on the driver’s side but not the passenger’s side. All good now. Wish they would have used different color wires l…[Read more]

At this point in time I’m only using one brake light switch.

Didn’t they do a covered bridge tour a couple of years ago at Carlisle? I think that’d be cool.

Almost correct Paul. But not in-lieu of rather in addition to. But I’ve tabled that thought for the time being. Knowing me, I could get to engrossed in paying attention to the rearview camera on the screen and not pay attention to my driving.

Kent’s answer nailed it.
And Allen, for what it’s worth, that connection is the only mistake I made when wiring my Duchess. Like yours, my rear wiring harness did not make it clear which wire was the tail light, and which was the brake light.

VW master cylinder; with only the brake light switch wired.

Sounds like Allen is looking for full time rear view camera in lieu of mirrors, not just for “backing up.”
Allen, I’ve been driving my TDr since 1983 with convex fender mounted mirrors and the dash mounted mirror. I’ve never had a problem seeing behind me. And don’t recall any “close calls” because I could not see a vehicle to the rear or side.

That’s a good idea too. I only thought about a direct route via metropolitan areas so I could see all the usual tourist places, so a scenic route would be better than doubling back. Main consideration is time, I know it takes a while going place to place as it is, and more so on those winding country roads to the isolated spots. But I also like…[Read more]

Hey Lrh,
If you made the small town of Roscoe, NY (pop abt 600)(in the Catskill Mountains) your hub for a day or two, there are nine covered bridges that I know of. All are open to one lane traffic and all are within 25 miles of Roscoe (my hometown). Plus, Roscoe is internationally famous for fly fishing and has a Fly Fishing museum (if yo…[Read more]

I keep telling myself, ‘someday I’m going to see the northeast US’. I’ve been across the country from southern tip of Florida to Washington state (only stepped into Canada there), north to Ohio and Washington D.C. but not into the NE corner of the country.
I’m going to try to plan a long touring visit whenever I do get there, so events i…[Read more]

Only thought about it because my still new car has one and it has been useful in parking lots or backing up close to things. But that’s with a car that doesn’t have much of a view out the back, I don’t have any trouble seeing behind the little MGTDr. Hmm, wait, maybe I should rethink that. I backed my tailpipes into something the first day I had…[Read more]

Question for all the VW based TDr folks. Which brake master cylinder do you use and how is yours wired? I have a dual brake master cylinder and have both brake switches installed but am only using one brake switch. I see no real need for using the other brake switch other than plugging the master cylinder. I don’t have the warning light and don’t…[Read more]
