You might also begin to pull wires from the fuse panel one at a time while it’s making the noise. Once the noise disappears you’ve identified the circuit that it’s on.

I strongly second peterjohn’s “minds eye” approach. In addition to good labeling, try to visualize where the individual wires will run, where they will be anchored, how they can be neatly grouped, and how much service loop will be needed to faciliate the repair of each component the wires service. You might also be able to anticipate wiring f…[Read more]

Dave @davearoy,
I’m starting over, with a simple question.
You wrote you need to replace your sending unit. Why do you believe that?
If you are getting no reading at all on the gauge, then yes, the sending unit may be bad.
Is it a mis-read situation? If yes, what’s the error? Read onto see why I am asking.
All of this assumes a Classic…[Read more]

John. Just to be safe you might want to go back behind the instrument panel and make certain there is not a loose wire or a hot wire really close to a ground point. Not sure if your TDr is VW based but if so and you’re running a stock system, the only noise you should hear when you turn on the key is the fuel solenoid opens and that sound is a…[Read more]

Hi everyone….i am a new user here. As per my knowledge there are several wiring diagrams in the assembly manuals, in the menu of our web site. What I did for my Classic Roadster Duchess wiring, was To color each wire in the wiring harness, with a corespond ing colored felt tip crayloa fine tip felt pen. I then could see a “minds eye” where eac…[Read more]

John
If you have a mechanics stethoscope try puting the probe on each of the gauges in the dash. Or as my grandfather taught me put a screwdriver on each gauge and put the handle to your ear. If the noise is caused by a vibration the noise should be transmitted through the screwdriver to your ear. Use a thin shaft screwdriver as larger ones that…[Read more] -

79 degrees in New Bern yesterday !!
…Got the TDr out of its winter hibernation and took it for a spin around the neighborhood. I sure love the power and performance the car has with the center mounted Weber carb — once the initial loading up of cylinders 1&2 clears out.
If I can find and fix that problem…
Happy Jack

This may sound weird (no pun intended) but seriously, every time I activate the car’s battery and ignition switch, I hear a VERY faint kind of crinkling, ticking, tinkling sound from somewhere in the instrument panel. It’s so faint, in fact, that I can only hear it if the garage door is closed and the engine’s off. It’s not my imagination, thou…[Read more]
