Ha!
A comment I have made often to Seton Hall’s Athletic Director. They are not aggressive enough in licensing the Pirate logo to manufacturers. Too much control!

Ed. After you get the fender work done and cleaned up, have you decided on a method to paint them? She’s coming along nicely.

Thanks Paul. Looking for a colored Univ. of Wisc. badge. Found one in silver in your link but noticed there was nothing for Seton Hall. What’s up with that? I’ll keep looking and check the UW campus store. It was down for routine maintenance.

Ditto what Ed wrote. Classic Roadsters Ltd. and Classic Instruments were not related.
The fuel gauge in my Duchess matched the standard VW sending unit (1o ohms empty/80 ohm’s full I believe). Unless the builder changed something, I suspect you have a stock VW sending unit in your Classic Roadsters tank.

Does anyone know of a company that makes and sells “Team” (college, NFL, etc) grille badges?

Pretty sure Classic Instruments is not related to that company. But they are still around and can be reached.

Hey Royal,
It was 26 degrees in Fayetteville today and I’m glad I had a hard top and a heater (as much as a VW heater is). I built a removable hard top using Foamular board and canvass. It weighs only 23 pounds and is easily removed or replaced in about 2 minutes. I do not know how to post photos but if you will email me I will send them to you…[Read more]

WOW Paul thanks for sharing. FYI, I came across my Classic Instruments Installuation Booklet the other day, as I need to replace my glass tank sending unit. The sending unit is not marker with any kind of a number so I do not know how may ohms it is. Might you know? My Dutchess was built in 1985 the only othe way is to pull the Gas Guage out of…[Read more]

If anyone’s wondering why I was thinking about fiberglass hard tops, it was 24.9 degrees F in New Bern, NC this morning.

Found this site with pictures of the old Classic Roadsters Ltd. factory back in 1983. This is about a year after my kit was manufactured: http://www.blackhawkengr.com/Classic%20Roadsters%20Factory%20Tour.htm
And here are a couple street view pics of the factory today:

Coming up empty on the Duchess hard top.
Meanwhile, here is a slightly longer discussion of hard tops (yes, Roy’s ideas are in this thread too!) https://tdreplica.com/forums/topic/hardtop/
And just for ideas, here are a bunch of hardtops, all on original T-series cars, with a few others thrown in for good measure: http://www.mgnuts.com/hardtops/tseries/

You make it sound so easy! 🙂
Back in the day, I almost sprung for Classic Roadsters Ltd.’s hard top. It came with hard window and frames for the sides, inserted into holes in the top of the door, similar to the way Speedster side curtains attach. I’ll try to dig out pictures. Seeing one might help inspire you “young folk.”
